fix me beautifull

category: general [glöplog]
sensenstahl: sorry, here's the context: So I had a few change requests to add some youtube links, which were based on comments by Rudi from under the prod. Given that those links work fine, I wanted to add them for convenience. Some of those requests were denied with "don't attempt to re-add rudi's crappy YTlinks plz".
If that's the policy, sure, I don't have any problem with that. What's confusing to me is that a month ago it was accepted, now it's not. So... what is the problem with Rudi's links?

cslag: rudi's bad captures are easily recognized- they're 60hz for 50hz platforms. (this in turn leads to various other problems, such as effects looking wrong and so on.)

havoc: ok, thanks for the reply. Can Rudi be made aware of that, also, to change his capture style? The work he puts into capturing is still useful to have... no? You also might then want to review my previously approved requests and undo similar ones. Thanks!

havoc: actually, scratch half of my last message, I'm sure you and Rudi already had discussions before... :D

cslag: it was more of a monologue (he never replies), but yeah ;)

Rudi is fully aware of the problem and just doesn't care

His PC captures aren't any better either, FWIW, but at least he took the ads off.

Ah now I am enlightened too :)

If a prod download link is temperally unavaiable, then the link marked as broken automatically. After the link comes alive again, which is the best way to let pouet known? How can i fix my broken links, which are not broken in fact?

http://www.pouet.net/faq.php#faq50

TY!
I'm waiting then..
(Btw, if anybody clicks on a broken link, and it works... it could be fixed automatically).
How would Pouet know the link works? :)

In a similar way that we add a link? We suggest that a link works and someone confirm and fix.

By the way, how Pouët know that the link doesn't work in the first place?

ham, https://www.pouet.net/faq.php#faq50. so changing to a manual process would be a bit anachronistic ;)

There is a problem with this prod: I think somebody got the includes/packed in links mixed up. I don't think Boggledop includes a demo pack. :)

There's a background process running on the server that does an HTTP request and evaluates a link based on the outcome - since we have quite a lot of links, it is staggered out to only do a few requests every few minutes since we don't want to hit other servers too hard. Enabling manual link-checking on demand I feel would be ripe for abuse since it'd essentially tell our server to hit another server, without any sort of accountability.

@Gargaj (& havoc): OK, now I understand it.

By the way, I just noticed something strange on this prod, there are two "demozoo" links that point exactly to the same page (with the only difference being that one of them has the "https://" prefix added in the URL). How about that?
added on the 2019-05-18 01:02:20 by ham ham
ham: done. it is not strange because some of them were added via (the old) request system and are handled as additional links (like youtube) while normally they were not. i deleted the "wrong" one.
the download link to Tristar Lotus Remixes is broken and I can’t find it anywhere.
Please, help! This brilliant musicdisk shouldn’t be lost in time.

Manwe: Please write in the pouet bbs about it, go to some forum or a facebook group and gather the collective knowledge of other sceners and then upload it somewhere and submit a new link in case it is not lost. This is not the place to ask for stuff like that. Really. Feels like that broken link issue is getting adressed more often recently which is not very nice.
There is a problem with this prod: The currently linked youtube is shit and doesn't show the demo as it's supposed to run. Better remove it

Remove it, for it is a duplicate of this prod.

I just got "wild compo" removed from this prod, with explanation that "there's no mention of wild compo" on (I assume) party site, and there definitely was a wild compo, so please fix :)
