Close one eye for a more 3D experience

category: general [glöplog]

If I cover one eye and watch a 3D demo, it seems more immersive and more 3D. I think it's because when I look at it with two eyes, my stereoscopic vision tells me that it's just a flat image on a screen. Whereas if I look at it with only one eye, there is at least some ambiguity.

Of course, the effect is probably less pronounced if the screen is far away.

Does this work for anyone else?

Yes. The effect isn't dramatic, but it's somewhat more believable. (I've tried this on and off since childhood, I believe.)

Of course, if you hold (for example) one half of a pair of sunglasses over one eye, you will get the Pulfrich effect too, especially on scenes with parallax scrolling

if you close both eyes the immersion is at its fullest

Cool, I didn't know about the Pulfrich effect. Thanks!
