pouët.net

youtube started striking channels with videos with links to pouet

category: general [glöplog]
My pouet-linking videos are fine, but I've seen others have theirs flagged as recently as 2h ago.
Also yesterday the entire site was flagged, but now it seems fine?

Maybe Pouet sooner or later has do on direct links what we has been been doing on loonies.dk for a couple of years now: run all requests to .zip files through a handler that looks for small .exes, and if found mangles them and adds an extract.bat (example - the file on the server is "normal"). A bit annoying though that you can't run directly from the zip then.

Maybe it's time to move out of youtube 🤔

Seriously GTFO, that annoying mangler stinks.

Looks like some people will never get that conclusion.

how about google/mozilla whitelisting scene-related sites?
we are a rather big community and we are much less shady than sites like "chip.de", which are not flagged
this annoys me more than a bit. Antivirus software is also quite shitty nowadays, why is flagging binary-encoded executables a thing? Sounds to me like "oh look, there's graffiti with red spray paint! time to ban all red spray paint!"

We're really not. Even counting charitably with our ~8000 SceneID accounts that's not even a drip in the bucket.

maybe use some of that new UNESCO rep to cause a stir
call out some antivirus software social media accounts.
get some retweets going. try to spawn an article on a couple of related media sites.
might work.

"Google bans UNESCO community from the internetz"

I said has to, definitely not should, and hopefully in a lighter form. It's not like I like it either... And such drastic measures could be disabled for the good guys (logged in users with x glöps)

A much lighter option against the automatic scraping flaggers (not just google protect which can maybe be reasoned with, smaller ones too) would be to put some sort of CAPCHA around the download links - logged in users excepted of course.

Restricting downloads to logged-in users is not a bad idea actually, probably should still display the fact there is a downloadable link but that you need to log in, so people are not surprised :)

Just declare pouet a world heritage site and that's it :D

Thanks for solving the general block. I changed a description link on youtube back to a pouet link, and it still get's hidden. I hope it's just a population issue from google->youtube

I did an appeal. Let's see what happens. Also my browser still says that pouet is "unsafe". :(

@rimina, for me, it required just closing an reopening the tab (google chrome). Safe here for now. Just youtube still denying backlinks to pouet is annoying.

Better not - as soon as they find out that scene stuff is infected the world heritage grant might be quickly revoked due to lack of proper preservation. ;P

Just checked and now the strike/warning is gone, and pouet links have been restored on my video.

Fixed here as well.

I just hope these "strikes" are actually deleted as well, and not remembered somewhere later down the line.
