I have to get a life... A Computer life! ™
Where did I read this ? ;P

Actually I share a connection. (no lan) I realise that I'm not the most addicted :D
French FAIs are pure evil, i.e. FREE = CANCER
The other got the same politics, when I surf on some forums, cheap without real service behind, only basic things on windows but never the line, never. (+ 3€/min phone)
FREE stole my life :]
FWIW, "FAI" is the French for "ISP"

Hi to you all!

Computer use?

1/ Well writing articles for ... Hugi (well seems we are all dead now at Hugi).

2/ Writing HTML / XHTML code / CSS: a new web site soon, promise (help me making table tr td emulation using css and xhtml, please). Top quality release this time: sexy photos of my girlfriends, top demos download link, new articles, all with a really beautiful design.

3/ listening music: internet radios, slay

4/ viewing emails, web sites (to save money while buying goods, viewing the news, better knowing the scene : 'hoodlum last cracktros on windows are really top notch stuff', trackers scene, scene history, cracking history, phreaking, ...)

5/ contacting 5 girls friends around the world at a cheap price

6/ making interviews (stealtz and shane, I'm awaiting your answers and others you can contribute too).

7/ drawing

...

if you need help in that, maybe you shouldn't promise having it done "soon"?

wow, that is top quality, in the same sense as david hasselhoff's music is top quality.

Computer use off scene

Amiga: doing gfx (no matter what...I do not use PC-photoshop etc.), MySQL & Apache server for testing
some work stuff on a low(weired) config, managing all my
e-mail accounts with amazing YAM, composing music for
web-usage, encoding it to mp3 via LAME, connectiing to
local network and mounting PC share directories with
SMBNET and Tango (chachacha), burn some CDs via network, surf the net once in a while.
My Miggy is MY
office babe!

for the scene: doing some crappy oldschool assembler,
tracking some music, here and there some pixelstuff.

The A500: I use it for the self of it coz I really admire
the Workbench 1.3.5 desktop...sooo cute

PC offscene: doing professional PHP developing (CMSystems) and erm..
ahhhh...surfing a bit...when I find time for it - doing some
Java stuff.

inscene: only watching demos/intros/chippacks

Yes,. I have a computer life and I lately I was not annoyed by getalifes (Now I don't have because I had to disconect the PC since 2 weeks or more, because of internal family matters. That's what I said in They stole my life. I haven't use the PC since 2 weeks. Pocketmoney is reduced and no other net access rather than netcafe, so I can really rarely get into the net, that's why I am too rarely writting here (expect from okcupid). "They" = "my parents". And that's why I wrote these lines,. but I wanted to hide the stuff and let you wonder who are They. But then I found out that I gave a meaning which is like "get a life",. NO they never stole my life, they are my life now and sceners love me, I KNOW THIS! Actually, I was laughing with myself that gave the wrong meaning by writting half sentences,. and I was saying "Oh no, I wrote a getalife thing!". My mistake..

Things preety much suck at home. Even if I can't open the PC and I started studying from July, my father still gets angry and breaks up things (the weightmachine, I lost 7 kilos but now I can't keep my track ;P), for stupid reasons. And my mother says to be patient, but I told her that I can only use the computer for few hours (say 4?) and not 8 or 12, and study enough of the rest,. and they still have to not try to control me and beleive me. I can't find the motive to study with such oppresion (100% press, 0% ways to escape). But anyways, things are not that bad and I am almost to finish the exams either in September or February. But I hate the way they treat me and that doesn't change except from a father who goes insane in order to oppress me psychologically to do things..

Today they were away, and so I went to an Amiga meeting in my town, and also met Sotsoft who was preety tiring and insane. But then, we both wondered. What is madness? We might be more logical than my father in some things.. (Yes,. even Sotsoft! I can't handle him. Can you?! ;P)

So,. even if I started coding some nifty stuff for PC, GP32 and teh rest, unfortunatelly I wll be preety inactive (except if I code something fast in the netcafe or presuade my family to bring back my life hobby) in the scene,. end of September will tell, I just hate it but perhaps this way I may finish a lot of sooner and my small brother and I will plan to go to study outside Greece together after the fuckin army. Or anything else. I hate it, the way it happens,. and it shouldn't happen this way..

And I thought lately that the scene loved me and I loved the scene. But they killed my life..

NO they never stole my life, they are = NO they (the computers)
added on the 2005-07-25 16:24:06 by Optimus Optimus
But my parents did..

there there.. how much time you've got to get the degree ?

perhaps your parents have saved your (physical) life.. who knows.

Navis: I am not sure what is your question there. So I will answer to my both guesses. I am 7 years at the university. My father wants that I finish my studies immediately in September (9 lessons in one exam). I can guarantee to finish in February if not September (not impossible, but hard). But what happens if I fail? He just has to get along with that..

I am also not sure if you wanted to say something ironic with that line. I thought that, because I know what you are usually thinking about my condition. Possibly that I am a lazy person who deserves it..

no my question was the first, how much time there is left. After army (going in spring?) where (and what) are planning to do abroad ?
added on the 2005-07-25 16:50:03 by Navis Navis
Optimus: I left the scene for 7 years because of studies, girlfriends, one year of working, and other hobbies such as a heavy metal band and partying. Now I have my Masters degree and only have two years left to my PhD. And I'm back in the scene!

So, even if you have to leave the scene for a year or so to get your degree and go to army you can come back. Only the APIs and CPU/GPU speeds will change in the meantime.

How the hell did you father brake the 'weightmachine' (I imagine you are referring to a 'scale'). ?
ManJIT : Are you doing a phd on a 'scene-related' subject, or completely irrelevant ?
added on the 2005-07-25 17:33:42 by Navis Navis
Navis: Software security. Doing static code analysis. Not scene-related but not irrelevant either ;-).

Mine is on (medical) image processing, which is kinda the opposite of computer graphics : images -> numbers. It is good fun, and I could make a demo one day combining the two. (maybe one based on realtime hough transformation?).

My main uses for a computer these days is abusing so called l33ts in here. :op

@Shane:

Interesting thread! That's the problem nowadays, not enough productivity and inspiration and too much whinging. Gimme the early Miggy scene any day.

Parapete: My email address is still shanethewolf@yahoo.com but it's always loaded with spam so excuse me if I miss any mails. :P Hope all is cool with you these days tho!

Knacker: Thanks. I love abusing l33ts too!! :) And I agree the Amiga was cool and felt like something was always going on.
knacker: the productivity and inspiration is all around the scene, but nowadays computers are _really_ useful for stuff outside the scene.. and that's why there's less demoscene. (atleast one of the reasons, imo)

@Shane: It's all in the name of progress I suppose and I'm only an occasional follower of todays releases. There seems to be a lot of Euro guys left in the main stream scene but very few UKers compared to the oldskool Amiga scene.

@Gemini: IKWYM but to the occasional visitor (like myself) the spirit isn't really evident when reading some of these threads. Maybe I need to read a little deeper into it?
added on the 2005-07-26 23:58:34 by Knacker Knacker
Last time, my net time was over. I then forgot the thread. So,. yes, till September but most probably February I will finish my studies. I'll most probably go to the army after my exams at February. My brother owns much more lessons, but somehow we are planning to go in Germany for studies or work. I will see and decide. And about the scale (I was laughing when I couldn't find any better word for this), he was just angry for reasons I find stupid. Oh well,. forget it...
