You will find 6 Linux productions, and some more are coming (195/95/256 port is being finished).

I just installed linux (I just got really fed up with windows). I might release some stuff in the near future.

once linux is installed a typical linux user will be compiling kernels 24/7.

Linux?
oh yay more goddamn platform bashing.

Look, I can't stand XP. I don't LIKE that XP is the dominant thing in demos. It means I can't see the majority of demos. But I am _NOT_ installing that goddamn pile of absolute craptastic SHIT and spend HOURS fighting off puking because I can't STAND the fucking thing to BARELY be able to work on things.

I work DIFFERENTLY than most people. That doens't mean what they do is bad, or that what I do is better. It works for ME.

If that bothers you, GO BUY A GODDAMN SHOTGUN, 2 SHELLS, LOAD IT, STICK IT IN THE BACK OF YOUR THROAT, AND PULL THE TRIGGER.

Quit bitching because not everyone is like you. God, you people sound like fucking Americans. Shut the FUCK up before I invade your country and take your oil.
haha, go truck, go truck, go truck!

Last time I used linux, it installed fine, ran everything fine, and I really liked it. Then I tried updating the video driver, and it killed X, and I was left trying to fix it in text mode. After a few hours of messing, I decided that linux wasn't ready for general use quite yet. Maybe it's improved by now though, that was many years back.

I've given up on windows too... not that its all that bad, but i got really sick of spending maybe 25% of the time I actually used the thing either fixing it, or installing patches, drivers, virus checkers etc.

I'm been using osx for the last year, and while its far from perfect, its by far the best of the bunch for me. Low maintenance, more time for work.

best argument yet.

OsX also has a really cool advantage for democoders - opengl drivers on it rock, and are part of the base system anyway (:

It does suffer from good crunching tools, however... oh well we'll get there eventually (:
truck: opengl drivers rock on osx? you're on acid, man!

'they just work' (:
truck: ... by not supporting a single feature!

then how come all 'alternative platform users' puke on winXP whenever i utter the word? it should come from two sides :P

kusma: considering that most opengl demos are still on a glVertex3f level - "they just work" :)

Gargaj: yeah, but i'd REALLY like glsl and FBO-support. fuckings to apple and/or kewlers.

opengl drivers rocking on OsX.. is there a case when they rock MORE than on 2k/XP ?
added on the 2006-01-05 19:39:29 by Navis Navis
Gargaj: Well, wouldn't that be an argument for using glVertex3f? ;)

no FBO for macosx? shame! Then again I don't think my ati rage 128 will quite cut it.

has anyone tried using wine to view any windoz demos with success?
added on the 2006-01-06 01:07:34 by lobster lobster
Yeah, I've run a few things off wine. I've found some that work just fine, but can't really remember specifically. (Just downloaded a bunch and let 'em rip.) Just make sure they're OpenGL.

Conspiracy intros all seemed to work, but their fractal algorithm for the mountains at the end of Project Genesis and in the beginning of The Prophecy are completely wonky. (Try it and see what I mean.)

2D blended sprites seem to have issues, but that's more than likely is an ATI driver issue. (FSAA has issues too, revealing edges in the middles of flat(ish) surfaces, but I'm 99% this is driver related.)

I think had pretty good luck with Haujobb stuff too.

Moppi demos had sound issues that eventually caused a crash within 15 or so seconds. Some other stuff worked okay too. Can't remember. I wasn't taking notes.

Let's say you can't live with people being different and follow Truck's advice and get a shotgun. Why buy two shells? It's quite difficult to miss with the first one, yes? :)

maybe the first one was for truck?

Just came to think about the demonstration that comes with aalib. It's platform independent but it feels pretty *nix-y. It's the best textmode prod I've seen so far I think.
