Do you think we'll ever see demos this good from the scene?

http://www.ati.com/products/RadeonX1K/demos/toyshop.html

That is mind blowing and has incredible atmosphere!

Can someone also tell me what is the Nvidia equivalent of the Radeonx1k?
Probably a 7900GT

Toyshop looked fantastic, it's a pity I can't run it in realtime, but the HD video looked great too.

BTW, I always prefered to have an application or game being accelerated in ogl rather than in d3d, because in the stone age of hw acceleration, it was by far superior to d3d, at least from the eye-candy-consumer's point of view, but this demo mekes me feel otherwise....

P.S. I have played a demo for a game called "condemned: criminal origins", I couldn't believe, how fast and superb looking it was. Yes, that' a lil ot, i will shut up....

p4 3.0, 1gb ram, gf6600gt (thats all a year old now) and some 21 inch 1600x1200 sony monitor i got from work. thats not a particularly fast machine, and it's what i aim my prods at knowing that the compo machine will be far faster.
also a p4 2.66, 512mb and radeon 9000 laptop that im going to replace shortly. and a dual p4 3.4, 2gb, dual tft 1280x1024, with (crapola) gf5700 at work.

a gf6600gt is imo the baseline gfx card at the moment, like the radeon9600 and gf4200ti was before it. 512 or 1gb ram and a 3ghz-ish cpu should round off the current minimum spec nicely - cpu speeds dont really change much these days, ram doesnt seem to be as big an issue in most demos these days, but gfxcard is likely to change every few months (still).

besides, half the demos released still seem to need ogl 1.1, so you'll always have something to watch :)

17" ENVISION something-or-other monitor
80gb HD

It is an out-of-date system but it works, and I'm mainly into Atari ST scene anyway (for which I have a mega ste.)

just be sure it works on both ati and nvidia. i (and lot of people i know) have still old and choppy radeon 9600 - which still has ps2.0 support so not that bad target to aim for. don't think the cpu/mem specs matter that much. everybody has enough a few gigahertz and at least 512 megs of ram, so...

Amiga 1200 E/Box Tower, 2 MB ChipRam
Blizzard 1260/50, 64 MB FastRam
Zorro IV Expansion Board
ZIV Repulse Soundboard, Hypercom Serial/Parallel Device
Mediator PCI ZIV
PCI Voodoo 3/3000 16 MB GFX RAM
PCI 10/100 MBit Ethernet board

oops...

I mean I've only got a Samsung X20 Notebook for PC stuff:

1024 MB RAM, Mob.Radeon x600 64MB GFX MEM
Intel Centrino 1600 MHz, 80 GB HDD

was good enough for last years prods but since external framebuffers and Shadermodel 3.0 I guess this will be too much for the tiny X600
