Demo scene still inspiring games developers

For inspiration, Wright looked to the "demo scene," a group of (mostly European) coders who specialized in doing a whole lot with a little bit of code. Their procedural programming methods were able to, for example, fit an entire 3D game in 64K, using mathematics to generate textures and music, etc. "I just found this incredibly exciting," Wright confesses, describing the kinds of work that he saw come out of the demo scene.

the Spore video is on video.google or something (It was presented at last year's Game dev. Conference). The first five minutes are entertaining, and then you get really really tired of hearing the magic word "procedural".

I was playing Riddick and stand by a megaphone in the guard's market area, like the ones playing that soft music like on the supermarkets. I noticed something strange.. it was DEMOMUSIC!!! (Well yes, later I played the commentary of the game to hear that it's demomusic from Lizardking and another one who's nick I forget. Of course,.. but the game is from Starbreeze)

Just so you know.

Why only sceners call demoscene to the scene, while others call it "demo scene"?

xernobyl: my guess is because the demoscene traditionally is dominated by germans, frenchies and scandinavians, all of whom speak languages with weird (or atleast very different from english) rules for combining words.

i wish there was some sort of url-counter incorporated in the bbs and/or oneliner, so that people would get a small "warning! this url has already been pasted 948385782349 times"

seriously - this is grandpa-old.
