Paula / UAE question

category: music [glöplog]

Okay, I guess you can't do this on a real Amiga, but is it possible to map each Paula channel to an individual out on a multichannel soundcard in *UAE? I usually use FS-UAE on Linux / OSX.

Maybe try on the FS-UAE support forum?

You probably could do this on a real Amiga with some hardware modifications.

Or at least, I find it plausible until someone more knowledgeable debunks it ^^

You need to make a new Paula-chip to get all 4 separate channels, as the ones found in Amigas only output left and right

Ah, so the 4 channels are mixed to L/R output inside the chip then? Shame. Would be cool to have 4 seperate outputs ^^

Yeah if they'd designed the Amiga with individual outs in the first place, it would have been a serious competitor to the hardware samplers of the era. Not to mention easier to do (RCA jacks = cheap, hardware mixing in 1985 = not so cheap.) Shame they didn't.

I wouldn't be sure the way it mixed (multiplexing) was more expensive than additional audio hardware. You don't just need more jacks, you need more DACs as well. :)
