Revision 2016 - 25th to 28th March - Saarbrücken, Germany

category: parties [glöplog]
i agree that the shader live coding sort of works and yet also doesn't. i mean, it is nice when the participant really tries to tweak his way out of his starting position with many visual intervals, but watching someone spend minutes on code that only produces a black screen... that's pure yawnage.

and rez: yes. i should get Reza drunk enough so i can organise a Bob Ross compo at revision 2017, which would be the live shader compo equivalent of demoscene graphicians with very cheap easels, paint, brushes from a 1 euro shop and a little assignment to help (or rather unhelp) their creativity (this idea exists for 3 years now, it should fucking happen one day :P)
We had a "Picasso" compo at tUM 2004 which was very similar to what you describe :)

I think you meant to say this was the single most tense moment during the compo last year right? I can't remember who it was but I just remember willing them on to get something back on the screen!

my fathers death has pretty much fucked up all plans for this year so have to see if i really make it to revision or not.

oh no :( sorry to hear that nosfe. Wish you the best, and I can understand if this makes it difficult to make it to revision this year.

nosfe: super sad to hear that. I wish you all the best.

I would love to compete a fast (digital) painting competition. However, I would probably die if I couldn't use my custom hotkeys and brushes. I love to watch speed painting videos. And I think it's much harder to completely deadlock like hardy did last year. Watching him suffer wasn't fun.

It would also be nice to have some sort of live-vj competition, maybe in conjunction with the annual ronny/hoffmann/logoober act. Basically every participating team getting a couple of minutes before the video-signal is passed to the next team. I always got the feeling that creating matching live visuals while listening to a (fresh) track is the ultimate speed coding/design challenge. It's probably super hard to pull off, but all the demotools should be used for more than size-coding.

Newbie Mentoring Program & Behind The Scenes

For the second time in a row there will be a mentoring program as well as „look behind the scenes“ tours.

You have friends who are new to the demoscene but are a bit scared to come? Bring 'em.
Interested in how Revision is organized and want to learn about it? Maybe even considering in helping out with organizing in the future? That's your cue!

Check out the details here!

Free idea assuming GEMA approves;

Put open decks there at the party, it might be cool people brought vinyls, casettes, CDs or usb sticks there. Some maybe playing themselves, others just bring song (which might be safer too if you know what I mean).

Good times ahead I foresee!

Oh, one more free tip. Surely doable if people just get over with their dignity.

Organise a Scene Bingo with some silly prize. Say, kiss on a cheek, for the person who gets to say the final word "Bingo!". Heard it's been great times in Helsinki before where they organised such event weekly on Sunday.

Newbie Mentoring Program - CALL FOR MENTORS

We are still in need of 2 or 3 people who would like to be mentors! The only things that are important if you want to be a mentor: don't be a scene newbie, be comfortable speaking English, and you will have to be present at the party place from Friday, March 25th, 4:00 pm (16:00) at the latest for a short briefing. Also you need to not have anything planned between Friday 5 pm (17:00) and 7 pm (19:00) (we WILL take a break in between so everyone can watch the opening ceremony, don't worry! :).

Scope of duties:
- Give the newcomers a tour of the party place (Friday, 5pm/17:00); you will get a list of all the places you need to show
- Be at the „How to Scene“ for beginners event in the seminar room (Friday 6pm/18:00) for a meet and greet of mentors and newbies (don’t worry, we will take a break for the opening ceremony), tell them a bit about yourself and possibly answer first questions
- Be a personal contact person for newcomers and answer any questions that may arise (you will get a badge and we will install a flag at your seat in the party hall so you can be spotted more easily)
Optional: Hang out in the newbie mentoring IRC channel during the party (details will follow)

If you're interested, please drop us a mail until March 23rd to mentoring@8bitbaby.net providing the following info:
Handle:
Group: (optional)
Valid Email Address:
In demoscene since:
Experienced in: (i.e. coding, gfx, music, animation, oldschool, party orga, …)

Looking forward to hearing from you! :)

instances of spectacular failure. If you think you can achieve greatness again, if you want to redeem yourself from your less than stellar previous performance

I wanted to return this year and do a better job, (now knowing about the keyboard switching between languages via Ctrl-Alt would make things a lot easier! ;) ) but knowing i only managed to get my actual intro done in the very last minute last year and also knowing how much work is left on my this-years-demo i will have to postpone that to next year! :/

This said: i absolutely adore this compo, never let it die again! This is the only coders-only-compo we have, atleast if we dont count <=4k-intros where most of the times atleast a musician is involved aswell.

Good luck to all 8 participants this year in advance! :)
Nosfe: I'm sorry for you loss. :(
