you could print some 3d-printers that print 3d-printers...and solve 3d-printer-world-hunger this way! ;) *printception*
Peerke/Poo-Brain has one and is making action figures with it, they're pretty cool.

im curious how much are the printing costs for such a big bird skull?
@gargaj:

oh man, you should at least get yourself a 2d one

as an example, this was my first „3d print“ - if you want to call it that way.
made with a 2d printer some years ago.

it was made with blender, unwrapped with pepakura http://www.tamasoft.co.jp/pepakura-en/

to segments, printed on paper,
cut, glued together and then filled with fast curing resin.

the result is a pretty solid structure in the end.

BB Image;

it was very tedious - has no resolution but hey - isn´t this the place with
the people having a low poly fetish, doing time consuming but genius things with actually
no, or outdated equipment ;)

@maali

between us: (oh i forgot i´m posting this on the web :D
material cost are „nothing“ - around 35 bucks. one spool of filament depending on the infill settings.

machine costs are a different story - if i would sell this print at this size
(80 hours print) i would charge around 300 euros. design / modelling not included

since this is not my design - i can´t sell it - grab it 4 free http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:289987and print it at your
local 3d hub. or - for the same money - get yourself e.g something like this: http://www.geeetech.com/delta-rostock-mini-g2s-pro-diy-kit-with-autoleveling-p-936.html

if, some day, you are looking for a design / model that is not
„out there“ - or you have a question on 3d printing - feel free to get in contact with me any time.
Cosmicollie: it reminds me of this ! :)

And then do this.
@saga

danke für den wirklich geistreichen Beitrag. ich sollte mich jetzt wahrscheinlich aufregen.
aber ich vergesse immer wieder, daß dies pouet ist. mein fehler.
you´d better stay in 8bit wonderland.
@cosmicollie:
hi, i thought to ask your oppinion as you seem to know you stuff around this kind of things.

i have planned to do collage stop motion music video for some time(based on my own paintings) and have waited to have enough money to get good quality prints.

should i get a printer instead and any recommendations?
budget is low.

Hi 1in10,

every day there´s coming up a new technology. - we can´t do anything against that.

what we buy today will be bulky waste tomorrow. please keep that in mind.

what i can tell from my personal experience:

we spent a lot of money and tested a lot of 3d printers over the last past years.

slr ones, fdm ones.

they do all pretty much the same. the most important things for fdm ones are:

• the extruder - we had really good results with these:

http://www.my-home-fab.de/bulldog-extruder-xl/de

• the software / slicer (repetier host, simplify3d, etc etc) you´ll have to get used
to the settings.

these machines - not for home use - unless you have loads of money.

i use them for example for my jewelry works.

http://www.solid-scape.com

there are companies out there who own them and know how to use them.

these ones are for dental use:

http://www.stratasys.com/de/3d-drucker/design-series/objet30-pro

friends of mine work in that segment, they have some of these.

what i would recommend:

personally decide if you want to be able to upgrade your machine
and use pla and other materials or mods like this:

http://www.rooiejoris.nl/z-unlimited/

or choose a closed system - like i did - closed source - limited to materials
but i´m a 3d artist - i need a convenient machine to use and a very reliable one:

i don´t want to have lots of hassle with my printer - i want results. this machine is around 1500 bucks

these are polish guys and they did an awesome job in creating this machine:

https://zortrax.com

please keep me updated i´m curious what you´ll create

AND: please keep in mind to choose a local reseller - whatever you choose. if you have problems with your machine - and this is a given - you´ll want to have someone near your place that can help you in no time.
