the phoenix/zone discussion

Freeing up the one-liner again..

It started like..

phoenix> might be good to enter more good prods before all of a group's bad prods?

zone> to phoenix : who are we to say if a prod is good or not ?

Well, I did used to be a demo reviewer.. :) But there are obviously bad demos (which noone likes except their creators, maybe a sick joke) and the obviously good demos (which everyone knows about and maybe a few don't care). Yes, you can enter all your joke groups's prods, but IMO it would be better if you found which other groups' best prods are missing first. It's a quality over quantity thing.

so, i must be the second replayer :-)

fo me, it's my opinion, demo is art, and we cant judge art easilly

pouet.net is here to let us makes comments about prods
and the popularity let you see only the 'best' prods

so, all demos must be linked on the web, pouet is the best way today

if someone create a limit, a label for good or not demo, art and creativity will go to the death

we can't say if it's good or not, we can just say if it's a Demo (using our codes of society like free, creativity, computerised, code-gfxs-music not commercial, technical limitation explosed etc ...)

we can say : this is a demo or not
we have not the right to say : it's a good/bad demo

i'm for the quantity, because lots of 'little' prods (i never say bad) have a little think good, a good idea to use in our own prod
respect creativity of the others, and it will be your inspiration :-)

remember 1994 (if you are on the scene at this days), scene in general says Melon-style-demogroups are not demomakers, there prods sucks a lot, they cant be shown on the big screen etc... now we are in 2001, this attitude it's absurd for all of us now, but if someone in the past makes rules and decide "this demo is bad, dont spread it", you where not able to see it today...

so, i'm for the quantity, because we have not the right to judge the quality for the future.

only legends resist to the time, and only good demos resist in our brain :-)
everyone has a right to say what's on his mind regarding art, or politics, or dog food, or whatever.. a wide range of opinions never hurt anybody.. 8) and I don't think my opinion will make someone actually think that a certain demo is bad - everyone can download it and see for himself. I'm not banning demos I don't like in any way.. 8))

let them add all the shit prods they want, the comments will tell the people who are looking for hidden gems which ones are good and which ones are not.

the comments (number and diversity) should influenciate the popularity counter somehow. would help better demos stand out more. but then again we can all think of a way to get a shitty demo to rank higher. but then again, the ones who might want to do it can do it as it is anyways.

Every picture tells a story, don't it?
unless it's supplied by nuey - then it's usually just nasty. :)

hm... how about a "most comments in the last 1 month/2 months/whatever"-box?

phoenix: damn, when did demos and pouet become so DAMN important? who really gives a shit if some craptro/joketro/funtro/lametro/whaterver-kind-of-prod has been added? people add stuff they discover to be missing, that's all there is to it. and hey, just because you used to state your opinion about demos on hornet doesn't mean you're any more right than any other jackass out there.

Recently one scener from C64 and PC told me that he misses PC demo reviews like they existed for C64 in their mags.
Go on people, write some *good* reviews. PAiN is your friend. :)
