Breakpoint 2007

category: general [glöplog]
phoenix: well, as a side note and completely unrelated to your point (regarding your last comment)... if I want to be there, it's quite not because of demos (on which I'm not very interested anymore lately :) ).

Just a nice experience (which is how I'm taking the latest parties I've gone to)... i'm pretty retired myself from the demoscene :)

Demos are mostly boring lately... even the good demos. Demos were nice back when they were the most impressive thing to do with a computer in realtime. That's sadly not the case anymore... although I'm not a gamer-type person, games are undoubtedly more impressive (while still realtime) than nowadays demos. Not saying this is not understandable (or subjetive).

The demoscene still attracts me for the "social" part, which is why I'm jelaous about not being able to go to parties like breakpoint (it's just far too expensive for my current salary/debts balance... and I'm not talking about the entry fee... that's absolutely not the expensive part) :)

To avoid getting sick abroad or at big events like this everyone should consider drinking some amounts of at least 40% alcohol every day, keeps the bacteria away quite efficiently and of course there is the fun effect of drunkness too.

I think the organizers need to take stuff like this seriously in order to avoid possible disasters at future parties.

so setting up a sick bay next to the party place would be an option in case an epidemy breaks out?

demoparties turn more and more into adventure camps :D

A health certificate (and the will to live up to these standards while serving food at BP) should be mandatory if one is to set up a food stand at BP.

i'm somewhat sure that the people that worked the booths did have that, it's practically impossible to have a (or work in the) gastronomic business without being in possession of a valid health certificate. part of our taxes actually finds its way to health authorities in germany. =)

That's really not what I wrote or meant. No, I meant they should be really critical about the companies selling food at BP. I hope they already are, but if not, it's time to up the ante.

Hell yeah! Next time I want a climbing wall, tarantulas on the menu and the ability to vote people to go home!!! ;)
I won't blame BBCode - I wrote the fecker who wrote the above. ;)
Argh! I BLAME the fecker, who.....

nutman: All food booths workers did have valid health certifcates, and the booths got checked by the "gesundheitsamt". If anything would have been wrong with any of those booths (like salmonella), then TONS of people would have suffered from it, and not only one.

The reason why we didn't have a different Döner Kebab stand this year (as it was planned) for example was simply for the reason that he could not get a stand that would pass the Gesundheitsamt tests. Rules on this are EXTREMELY strict in Germany.

What really is a point is that the carpet after 3 years of use probably has been full of bacteria. It's now in the trash, and there will be a fresh one next year. Still, all those visitors from different countries obviously bring in lots of virii and bacteria into the hall, which gets distributed by hundreds of PC fans. Remember the influence the scandinavian guys brought to BP last year?

Still, the real solution to the problem is: If one doesn't have a very good immune system, then take care for yourself. Take vitamins with you to the party, use the showers, wash your hands after using the toilet etc.

As said earlier, we'll make sure that for next year a fruits/salad bar stand will be available.

still, i would REALLY greet a new kebab stand next year. one that would not look so dubious, and also would provide other turkish goods like lahmacun and börek. especially the scandinavians really need to get introduced to GOOD kebab. :)

and scamp, once again thx how your company handled my lost records. they arrived absolutely safe. thx a lot!

dip: You are welcome.

As said earlier in this thread somewhere, yes, we WILL have a MUCH better real Döner Kebab stand next year, the replacement that was planned for this year. It's a local shop, and they served our orga team during party setup, and their Döner is excellent. Now he has 1 year of head start to get himself a Gesundheitsamt-safe booth.

As a visitor who has had contact to many people I'd be happy when everybody'd do it, no matter how good or bad his/her immune system is. (Yes, there were quite some people who didn't take it that serious.)

AMIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIGAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!

;)
I love the fact that the Breakpoint thread suddenly turned into "remember the things you learned in Kindergarten - don't take stuff from others and always wash your hands" :D

uhm, does it mean that you didn't wash it at all for 3 years?

there was some sort of magic in the recurring "i recognize that pukestain from 2005" phenomenon though...

may the carpet live for another 10 years!

rmeht: technically, when we rolled it out this BP it had only been used for about 10 days :)

ryg: haha - good point :D - also I wonder how it should be washed anyway.

Maybe my immune system is quite good, since I only tend to suffer from severe lack of sleep after a Breakpoint :)

I ate a single döner on Friday (I think). On Sunday afternoon I ate a slice of pizza from the beergarden's pizza stand. After about two hours from eating that single slice I started noticing that I no longer feel too good. I drank a little orange juice and that was pretty much it. In about half an hour from that my stomach was completely fucked up.

I didn't go see a doctor, since I started feeling better on Monday and felt like I could drive. We had to drive about 900 km from Bingen to Copenhagen (that ended up taking about 14 hours since I had to stop for toilet every two hours). When we arrived in Copenhagen at around quarter to one at night, I was _really_ tired and fucked up - I had not eaten a single piece of solid food the whole day, only some fresh juice. On Tuesday when we drove from Copenhagen to Stockholm, I made the mistake of thinking I could eat food again. Bad idea. The rest of the way from Jönköping onwards was hell.

I ate the döner, currywurst + fries (2 times), spaghetti and on the last day scrambled eggs for breakpo...fast.

No problems at all...so that pizza slice you ate is quite suspicious indeed.

Btw, drinking juice all day when being sick doesn't help either.

i was on a pizza diet almost all the time (which somewhat equalled to eating nothing at all) - so i wonder if it was the pizza that left me with a steady stomach pain or barely eating anything at all.

serpent mentioned the higher-spirits-way of getting around things, i wonder if that works on the long run? =)
