Breakpoint 2007

category: general [glöplog]
Yeah, you better not show up at BP07....
...unless you bring me beer! \o/
But if you're comfortable with your own platform, why try to change ours? Trying to make the Amiga scene "keep up" and stay "modern" and "vibrant" is pointless because it's defined by the platform, and the platform isn't going anywhere.

You seem like a reasonable fella Doom, and I never said anything about changing the amiga! I wouldn't dare! You're comparison is spot on and I 100% agree with you on the differences.

What my, and many other peoples, point is, is that the Amigans keep complaining when their platform gets discussed.

Having Amiga compos is great, but some of the Amigans don't EVER see it happen that their compos might disappear and have to participate in the, gasp, real wild! Do you hear Atari people complain? hardly ever, Havoc mentioned everything about that, it would be cooler to compete with similar machines, but that Atarians are not DEMANDING compos and PPC support and what not.

I'm not saying that all Amigans are zealoty people living in the 90's, but I am saying that they are the only platform specific group in which people tend to complain a lot about complete non-issues (Ghandy's rant in PAiN for example).

But yer right, enough to say about these issues, it's all good, it's all good! Let us rejoice and share beer instead of dumb arguments!

wasnt the amiga demo compo actually somewhat at risk after bp2003? (fortunately 2004's sorted it out)

aaaaaaand by the way, the most annoying thing about compo rule discussion is when the people discussing it arent actually planning to enter that compo themselves. and never did in the past, either. and probably never actually produced anything on the machine/category they are arguing about, or at least not in recent history. so, erm - why are they arguing about it, exactly?

okkie: The atari situation is not at all comparable to the Amiga one - the Atari scene for the last years has *refused* to be part of Breakpoint, so it simply made no sense to organize any kind of compos or events for a platform where exactly 0 users of show up ;)

This may change now according to havoc - looking forward to that.

Scamp: oh, ok. Fair enough! I didn't know that!

And since this is still the Breakpoint discussion thread, get these fellas to play at BP07! That would kick ass!

...which is the only reason I'm not moaning and whining and ferociously campaigning for the C64 demo/intro compos to become combined 8-bit compos, incidentally

I, for one, welcome our Falcon060-powered overlords. Hirr, hirr.

Yes, and let's combine PC demo and Wild demo, too.
Wouldn't that be unfair towards all the video artists?

Uhm.. so what were the specs of the Falcon 060 anyway? :) Looks like there's a 16-bit chunky truecolour mode.. ehee..

Gargaj: You might be right!

I just wanted to cause a stir. That's be. The stir-causer....

No, seriously, I was well on the way back to the good, old "Don't mix platforms in compos" discussion, but gave up halfways. It's utterly pointless, when organizers state that they don't have time to organize a compo for each platform.

And they have a point with that, of course. Even a good point, I might add. There are, after all, a good deal of party-organizing-skills, that I am missing, simply because I never did organise much of a party, but to me it seems well within possibility to open up for unofficial compos, which MIGHT spur people, who recently wouldn't come to a party, because their platform had been "ridiculed" by being moved into the Wild demo compo, to actually return to that party once more, thus creating a sense of versatility instead of the always lingering "the-scene-will-soon-be-all-PC" problematics that we face every day (and which I, frankly, is quite tired of having to listen to).

Sigh...I have no final solution, but unofficial compos MIGHT be a step in the right direction.
the always lingering "the-scene-will-soon-be-all-PC" problematics that we face every day (and which I, frankly, is quite tired of having to listen to).

Hehehehe, haven't people been saying this since, like 1993? And did it happen? Thought so ;)

Come on laddies! Let's just forget this ridiculous discussion and just do our thaaaangs on the platforms we like! aight!?

scamp: I have yet another doubt... we were thinking in going a pair of days before and go back one day later... I guess that the discounts in hotels etc will be only valid the 4 days of breakpoint right?

I would like to see a fast gfx compo (no need to get prizes, it would be just for fun... a bottle of german beer would be enough). There are not fast gfx/music compos? The quality in these compos may not be very high but it's usually fun

Nutman: Errmm... what parties and what organizers are you talking about? You are aware that Breakpoint is the only major party left that *does* do platform competitions and has not gone the mixed compo route, yes? That BP is the party that has real Amiga sceners doing Amiga compos, real C64 sceners doing the C64 compos, and real PC sceners doing the PC compos, so that we have people that actually do care about their platforms doing the job...

What's next, complaining about the rave party in the sleeping hall? ;)

how about the rave party in the sleeping hall ?

What happened to the forum at breakpoint.untergrund ?
Might be better then p***t to organize travel, hardware and sleep..
okkie: The atari situation is not at all comparable to the Amiga one - the Atari scene for the last years has *refused* to be part of Breakpoint,

Scamp: what do you mean? Who refused? I would gladly submit an Atari entry if I had more spare time. I doubt Atari people have anything against Breakpoint (except maybe a few anti-PC zealots, but I guess this kind of people is not specific to the Atari scene).

Crumb: No, the discounts for the hotel will be valid for the whole time of your stay in Bingen, as long as it includes the Breakpoint weekend.

There will be fast compos, but due to nature of fast compos, these obviously are not announced prior to the party ;)

keops, you sound like an amiga zealot :)
read havoc's earlier post about ostriches :)

anyway scamp's point is valid in many ways, considering there's been an atari-oriented demoparty during easter in the last many years. who's "fault" that is (the whole "the atari scene was badly treated at some m&s" story) is IMHO hardly interesting now that it's 2007 and all, but nobody's ever asked BP for atari compos and thus BP never organised some. and until last year all them atari sceners were at outline instead (everybody come to outline07, by the way. not during easter.)

that said, i can't personally see any reason to not allow various atari (030, 060, etc) platforms in the amiga compos for bp07. unless you can't find an atari compodude, but i'm sure havoc or earx don't mind bringing their boxes. and this thread has shown that all the amiga folks who actually might make a prod won't mind either. :-)

Ah right, I forgot about Outline that happens to be at the same time indeed.

Not anymore Keops!

not anymore since last year!! it was moved to may and became all multiplatform (but still with the ever present atari touch of course).

i believe there was some other atari party during easter in '06 anyway, somewhere in czechoslovakia i believe, but plenty atari sceners were at bp06, and many more will (hopefully) attend bp07!

oh, and now that we're abusing the BP thread for outline promo anyway, you should all attend outline07! it's going to happen somewhere in Holland somewhere in spring!
