I though we were tired of glow effects? And in that case they are simply doing the world a favour.

Ok, EVERYBODY start glowing now!
I doubt they'd get away with enforcing that patent.

vaguely on topic, and just being curious: software patents still are a US only joke, right? or, they didn't do it in EU yet, right? i hope? (i'm sure somebody here knows these things by heart)

software is considered a creative work in eu and can't be patented (but can be copyrighted) if nothing's changed since i've taken my intellectual property course.
"a method" can be considered an invention an can be patented though, such as "a glow algorithm to be used on display screens".
method and apparatus...
indeed. you can't patent an "ehi, nice effect, i'll call it glow!" but you can patent "ehi, nice effect, i'll do it this way!"

I'm hereby patenting the method and apparatus of repeating tired and very old slashdot "discussions" on demoscene related forums.

I plan not to license this stuff to anyone, so you can pretty much STFU now, thank you :)

yeh, you can patent the 'idea', not the software. however, we have a shitload of hypnoglow featuring demos to sue their bollocks off!
Any before feb 2003?

edge of forever, our asd demo, had kind of hypnoglow with render to texture and it was make around early 2002.

it doesn't matter, this is as stupid idea as their graphics engine concept Talisman.

Augh...

My country is a joke...

"Hey America, you're so fine, you're so fine you blow my mind. America!" >farts<

Speaking of, I have a patent to apply for.
some new (improved) world would be nice.. or if that doesnt work, try to refresh america a little.. would make many people happy..
