would it not be a funky idea to change all ftp.scene.org download links on pouet to the http version that allows one to choose any mirror?

i.e. expand ftp://ftp.scene.org/pub/parties/2000/evoke00/demo/fr05_p.zip to http://www.scene.org/file.php?file=/parties/2000/evoke00/demo/fr05_p.zip

it's not much more than one simple database search&replace/regexp, and would make downloading quite some files a lot easier, because of the 275 users limit (and it would not move the load over to one specific mirror, as changing the ftp server would).

Excellent idea. I have to do it manually all the time, just because of the user limit (and se.scene.org is faster for me). A script like that would be quick to make but it requires a bit of info on the inner workings of pouet.net ;)

yeah, i was never able to download from scene.org ftp cause of the limit...that message TURNS ME OFF! :P

that proves that once in a while, a good idea can appear on the demoscene :)

Why not add scene.org to the filesearch-links? If the file exists on scene.org, you'll get access to all its mirrors, AND you won't have to change all the filenames as described above..

After some trial&error I found that you can pass your own arguments to scene.org's search.php like this:

http://www.scene.org/search.php?search=somefile.zip

scene.org is included in the ojuice ftp searcher.. use that one.. it rocks:)
