Outline 2009 is a go!

category: general [glöplog]
Oh and finally, I'd like to ask anyone to search their memory for examples of demoparties that lost much of their cozy and personal touch by over-organised efforts, too large organising crews and entirely pre-planned schedules. I'm not mentioning any names because such impressions differ per person, but I'm sure many people can think of some examples. I'm very weary of turning Outline into yet another of such events, even if the steady increase of visitors continues.

As such, if we want to keep the Outline atmosphere while growing in size, a small core orga team is a must, which means we must delegate some features to others. Such as a kebab place.

If you want a party where everything is perfect and nothing is happening, consider not attending Outline, it may not be your type of thing. If you want a party where anything can happen but you're counted on to make it happen, maybe consider taking that plane to Holland next year as well. We're open to suggestions, you know.

@skrebbel: this year was perfect - partywise. I've never been to an Outline before and this was just awesome. Don't change the formula :) And of course next year I will definitely help out again with the n/work support and whatnot.

Some might recall myself and Arcane trying to explain some norwegian comedy thing where a dutch song is being lip synced(or what you may call it)
I even think we forced some poor bastards to download a video on their phone so we could show some people(sorry for that btw, you guys ruled: ;)
Anyway, here it is just so you know maybe can get the comedy of it from listening to our jibberish about how it was ;)

I think it's funnier when you don't understand what he's saying than when you are..

The first two were amusing then the joke got old.

I like the fish on the head.
fresh news: it´s 90% sure another batch of outline 2009 tshirts will be printed

http://img144.imageshack.us/img144/709/armyw.jpg

that's the tshirt design, see the outline pictures on slengpung (for example) to see the shirt itself worn by various visitors

i think i probably have enough pre-orders for another run. sizes are S to XXL, price is 13 euro plus shipping, orange is possible (standard colour is olive, tho)

concerning other stuff, i´m in the field now, will respond later tonight to serious matters :) (but basically i agree with skrebbel)

Right. Outline ruled. Period.

As anyone who looks at me knows, I obviously _LIKE_ food and will pretty much eat anything once. If I like it I'll eat it again.

As several of you organizers and others know, I had a very odd financial situation which is still the case, and thus, I had a very limited budget.

So on food at Outline: I wasn't happy the first night with my food. I paid quite a bit of money for warm cardboard which I think should have had a flavor. It was, however, an edible substance and it almost relieved a tiny bit of hunger. As the party continued to rule so I basically figured I'd do something else for food the next night or something as there was a grill and all that. And I had beer.

So the second night I ordered food from the store via Topy and grilled it. Problem solved for me two ways: The food was FAR better and it was less expensive. Plus I got more bananas for balancing out drinking and cramping. So my problem got solved, and I had very tasty, reasonably priced food that was cooked nicely. Massive props to the Köln guys for bringing the grill, and to Topy/M0d/Silverlance for going and getting the food. And the fact that someone delivered warm edible cardboard to us was worth something, even if I wouldn't pay for it a second time. So props to the organizers for arranging that, cuz otherwise I'd have had no food and then I would have something to complain about.

Anyway, out of all that stuff - I would suggest that perhaps directions to the nearest store be posted next year, so folks can maybe grab something to grill. And fruit. (Which I had, thanks for the bananas, I didn't cramp at all during the party -- w007.)

Also I would love gimbap again because it rules.

Finally, the choice of beer was excellent and should be repeated (: But you KNEW that (:

And I still need a larger shirt because, again, I like food and beer.

I think splitting the pizzawave over multiple faster waves (maybe even from multiple places) is a much more promising idea.

Sounds good to me. I had no complaints about the food quality (I missed the first day, for what it's worth...) and the only downside was that I was a bit starved by the time it arrived - the brunch buffet disappeared a bit too quickly, and didn't really keep me going for the rest of the day. But considering all the spontaneous extras that kept the party atmosphere so awesome - the lollies, the cake, the chicken nuggets... - it seems churlish to expect the orgas to put any more expense and effort into the catering side. So yep, smaller more frequent food orders is the way to go.

Also, since no-one has brought it up as a complaint yet, I think something is worthy of mention as an absolutely-NOT-a-complaint: the internet access (or lack of it). At many parties, that would be a big deal (or, the organisers would *make* it a big deal...) and I think it's a great testament to the atmosphere of Outline that everyone was just happy to get away from their screens, talk to people and grab a beer outside, and not be the slightest bit concerned about when they could get back to leeching porn. And still not be concerned about it even when they're specifically being asked for criticism. So there... internet access at demoparties is over-rated (except on the last day, when there should be just enough of it to catch up on email and upload stuff to pouet).

well, the internet access was still decent enough so that i could send away an important business mail on saturday.

So where would we be able to order theese shirts?
Orange you say...hmmm...that would maybe be of more interest....the green one was stylish and all that...but Orange seems more fun to me.

When it comes to the whole food thing...The pizza was OKish...but the Burger thing was not good at all....I got really sick the last night....but that may also be my excessive beer abuse and my old body not being able to take all the beatings...but I still find it strange to get that sick just because of alcahole...like pains in the stomach and going to the shitter 5 times an houre......Alternativly I have turned into a fragile bastard that cant take foreign food anymore :( Maybe I live TOO healthy in "real life" that when scene life come my stomach cant take it???? Who knows...... Farfar is probalby the healthiest person in the scene...and he did fine...so..... blablabla...Im ranting....Is i Optimus....No I is drunk....good night!!!

I guess it was a bad combination of many things that made me ill at Outline. Too much alcohol. Eating The "hamburger" dish. Drinking alot of Baileys when I allready started getting ill (Never drink dairy products when you got upset stomach...rule no.1)
Not Even the 3 underberger shots I took helped.
But eNuff complaining.
Jepp DARKLITE is working on a new wild for Solskogen.

leia: I'm all for the cooking business, but other organizers rightfully expressed some concerns of being responsible for feeding over a hundred people. Breakfast on the first day was harrowing enough (you know, when we had to resort to frozen bread because all the stores were closed so we had to wait for the bread to thaw -courtesy of the formidable freezer), but I'm pretty sure that the idea of me handling a large knife under a certain amount of stress is no comforting sight. I guess it wholly depends on convincing the organizer team by cooking for them in the forseeable future :)
