METROPOLIS ART PRIZE 2009 - TIMES SQUARE - NYC

category: general [glöplog]

I am in no way connected with this contest, but maybe you need cash, and have some urban inspired demo or visuals, so why not try if it is free:

Get turned on in Times Square

THE WORLD’S BIGGEST ART SHOW NEEDS YOU!

Babelgum Metropolis is looking for the globe's best and edgiest artists to win US $20,000 and have their work shown on giant advertising screens in Times Square, the neon heart of New York City. Not only will you get the chance to share your artwork with millions in the world's contemporary art capital, you'll also enjoy the kudos of being a maverick art squatter among New York's most expensive advertising real estate!
Winners will be chosen by iconic art-house actress and video artist Isabella Rossellini, Cedar Lewisohn curator of the 2008 ‘Street Art’ exhibition at the Tate Modern in London, Lee Wells curator-at-large of Scope Art Fair and director of PAM, and Howard Halle, Art Editor of Time Out New York.

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
We want to be inspired, challenged, excited, awed, moved, intrigued and weirded-out. Babelgum’s Metropolis channel explores and celebrates the city and the urban environment in all its gritty, strange and wonderful permutations. We’re looking for art that reflects this spirit. The competition is open to ALL artists working in any visual medium, but entries will be judged on the basis of a video submitted by the artist.
WIN
Winners of the Babelgum Metropolis Art Prize will also land generous cash prizes.
(Just don’t spend it all at once.)

Grand Prize: The winner will receive a cash prize of US $20,000, a dedicated artist channel on Babelgum’s Metropolis channel, and his/her video will be screened in Times Square.

Best Street Art Video Award: The winner will receive a cash prize of US $ 5,000 and her/his video will be screened in Times Square.

Audience Award: The winner will receive a cash prize of US $ 5,000 and his/her video will be screened in Times Square. The Audience Award will be awarded to the video that has received the most votes during the voting period (2nd November to 6th December, 2009).

Times Square Special Screening Award: six runners-up (two from each prize category)…will also have their videos screened in Times Square.
