new generation about oldskool games

category: general [glöplog]

Hmm,. arcades. There are no arcade rooms in Greece anymore. They seezed to exist, among with the lucky fruit games. It's a pitty because I really enjoy playing some games at coin-op's, more than doing this in MAME. My absolute favorites were the Metal Slug series. (at least till 2 or X)

Here in Karlsruhe, I haven't found good arcade halls yet. The ones I found, are lucky fruit games (I forgot how this is called) stores, only one had some coinops too. The good thing is that with 50cents they give you 3 credits. The bad thing is that the quality of the coin ops is bad and some games are very old. And no metal slug :P However, I enjoyed playing Puzzle-Bobble there! =)

I have never tried playing games while drunken. Only watching Second Reality. But there was one time I was too sleepy (after a hard session of maths study after midnight with my friend AkumaX) while trying to play a racing game (V-rally if I recall well) through a N64 emulator. My car was moving in a straight road but then a curve was coming. Just some seconds before the curves, my eyes were closing and I crashed my car to hell :-) And then, I couldn't find the right way till I got sleepy again ;)

Gargaj: If Tetripz is the game I am thinking (can't currently test it here but I will at home) then thank you very much!!! I was searching for that one, had seen it a long time ago, it is preety wicked crazy (I mean an epileptic tetris with lot'sa sick effects and a bouncy behavior).

p.s. Personally, I wish it would be possible to persuade a woman with the joy of hex ;)))

I own a Dreamcast (in Greece), with a lot of cool games, but unfortunatellz no Rez. I should get that on my hand when I come back, because I am hearing a lot about it! My friends describe it, like that you are making a demo (making sound effects and music by killing specific enemies) while playing, but I can't currently figure out how it can be if I haven't seen it :P

Oh and Ikaruga! That's actually very hard for me, even if I started to like it, but the favorite game of Raoul Duke, one of the organizers of ReAct. I shared a nice moment playing a little at the organizers desk with him :)

I saw the Ikaruga. Amazing... There is Ikaruga 2 (Radient Silvergun 2) since Sept, 5th available... Lucky DC'ers!

Let's talk about insane Japanische Otaku gamers also, it's very funny and interesting for me :)

For example, my friend Raoul was an Ikaruga-freak, he played it impossibly well, for my standards. He made a trip to Japan with some other friends for one week and he was very joyfull to inform us that he finished Ikaruga at a Coin-op store in Japan with just one credit. But the funniest for me, is, what he told me about another Japanische gamer who came after him, inserted two coins and played perfectly (perhaps finishing it too? I am not sure) by controlling both sticks/players at the same time!!!!!!! WICKED

Unfortunatelly, I could never watch this in realtime (lucky Raoul! :) but here is another video file of Tetris Japan finals. This man is a hell of a robot..

Raoul is not Japanische but Greek like me. I just found out, that the way I am writting this text, it could be misinterpreted. Tut mir leid :)

optimus: for rez, the concept is pretty simple. The music starts basic, and builds up each time you finish a stage. When you shoot the enemies, the shots are timed by the game, so the explosion sounds are sync'd to the music rythm. It's playable too :)

And as to the joy of hex, tell the woman how hexy she looks, and tell her you would like to make sweet hex with her. And afterwards, tell her it was the best hex you've ever come across.

Also. I enjoyed playing [url="http://www.bakti.net"]Baktinet[url] a lot. I had forgot that! Now I can see that I am descending in the highscore list. Gotta grab the game in my USB too! (The problem is that I don't have internet connection at home to transfer my score. Perhaps I could copy the files in my USB and bring it in order to transfer?) BUt lol anywaysa..

Or a faq that says how the bb code works ;)
Plus an option to specify the url in hex.

I´m curious: Does any scener know the "Langrisser" or "Lungrisser" series? Or maybe the English translation "Warsong"? The best games ever!

Wel, in my book this is called the 'gap of generations' and it's perfectly normal and expected. Also, we should not compare these kids to ourselves, because they seem very far from developing into sceners. More like LAN/game addicts.

Finally, I couldn't help noticing how 'American' their attitude was. Looking constantly to blow stuff up etc. I mean, I'm sorry, but I just couldn't help noticing.

oldskool games (c64/spexxy/amiga) are the only ones i enjoy playing. although i didnt touch a game this year so far just like i havnt seen a single movie - 2oo3 is really fucked up - no peace, no love (my only escape is underground:)
