here are only pictures from 3 simple text-mode slideshows, if people know more stuff, please share to us as well - thanks!
Oh great, I own a MZ-800(700 compatible). I'll try these out.

i think this link only has pictures, the downloadable files are somewhere around http://bgm.sub.jp/700USA/700.html (i'm not fluent in japanese, maybe the Chrome/Chromium browser automatic translation can help a bit)
doesn't look like it's demoscene related in any way(?)

yes, maybe because culturally, or from their shintoist philosophy, this kind of work from japanese people is almost always very surprising
about the pictures at http://bgm.sub.jp/700USA/CGO/CGO.html , i finally found how they were done:

1- from http://www.maroon.dti.ne.jp/youkan/mz700/index.html get http://www.maroon.dti.ne.jp/youkan/mz700/CGE7.zip (CGE7.exe, from there, runs fine on Wine - since i have no other way to run ms-windows executables)
2- from http://www.sharpmz.org/marukunemu.htm get http://www.sharpmz.org/download/mz700fjp.zip (there is a file named Mz700fon.txt)
3- CGE7.exe needs a neighbour file (in same directory) named mz700fon.dat (exactly 4096 bytes sized) - at http://pastebin.com/8hccPkZj i posted a script converts Mz700fon.txt into mz700fon.dat , which i coded to run on sdlBasic (i think the code is simple enough if people want to use other interpreters, compilers, or languages)
4- if everything is resulting fine, the editor should look like this: http://img534.imageshack.us/img534/9922/mz700editor.png
5- if you want some txt files to try, there are some available between http://www.openspc2.org/~bgm/CG700/sample1.html and http://www.openspc2.org/~bgm/CG700/sample6.html

(i'm sharing this post content also in this forum post: http://www.atariage.com/forums/topic/173033-aquarius-bitmap-graphics-tool/page__st__125 )
another interesting ascii-art editor can be interesting and simple to code a similar editor to Aquarius is asciipaint - http://forums.tigsource.com/index.php?topic=14588.0 - it's a w32 flash projector also runs fine on Wine
(oops posted the last message in the wrong place - where is the 'delete' button? :| )
