Solskogen 2011 - The Suntouchables

category: parties [glöplog]
But, like Blueberry hinted at, it would be good to keep in mind that NSB (that would be the national train company) are doing repairs this summer.

That means that people coming from the airport (or anywhere up north) will have to take a bus part of the way to Oslo.

This adds quite a bit to the travelling time, usually, so it's good to know..

Not sure if the airport express trains will be covered by this as well, at least they don't have anything about it on their website as of now, but it will happen to all the regular trains.

Seems the trains stops at Lillestrøm and buss from there (attleast that's on my route)
25-30 minutes extra travel time.

That's no problem at all then, good news!

You're assuming that everything runs like it should. That's hardly my experience with NSB and their "bus instead of train" schemes.. :)

Perhaps it would be better to take the airport shuttle bus in the first place? It'll get you straight to the bus terminal in Oslo in about 45 mins, which is right next to the train station.

Dr Claw and I will be there and interested in sharing transport cost from Oslo. We arrive Fri morning, was hoping to see some of Oslo before leaving for the partyplace. This reminds me, I have to ask Ferris about lending us sleeping bags, as given airport restrictions we can't bring them : P
Shouldn't be a problem, when you arrive at the central station(bus terminal is in a different compound but only a short walk from the train station) you can just rent a locker and start looking about(central station is smack in the middle of downtown and Karl Johan street is right infront of the station).

The local train to Ås(Aas) departs every hour(sometimes half an hour) and people usually announce on pouet which train they are catching, so they can rent a cab together to the partyplace.
So I'm sure you can take all the time you need and still find someone to share a cab with.

Hell, if you bothered to come all the way from the states the organizers should get off their lazy ass and pick you up :)

Unless you were actually thinking of hitching a ride with someone in car from Oslo, in which case disregard everything i said :)

Add your name on the list if you are going to Solskogen by Train or other means. Fill in whatever you know by now. And the rest later. This way its easier to know who will arrive at f.i ÅS Station at the same time and can share a taxi

(who knows, if enuff people plan to arrive at certain times, maybe the organizers can fix some kind of pickup service.)

Or when people are planning on arriving at Oslo S from wherever, and you can hook up there and take the train further to ÅS.

deus: Yeah, the organizers really do nothing ;) We'll take care of the party, you just get there. As tFt points out - it's a long time until the party date, so everyone has ample time to arrange for common transport. As it happens, I don't think it'll be an issue at all.

I've never heard of any such rule before… what does the rule really say, and which airport is it that has such rules?

me neither, but hey.. these days, the confiscate pretty much anything.

"restrictions" does not necessarily mean "rules"- for me the problem would be luggage restrictions, for example

you have a large suitcase?

Aanyway... Looks like that "bus instead of train" to/from Lillestrøm is also valid for the Airport Express Train.. So yeah. You just can't reach Oslo by train from the northern side / airport this summer..

Nina, where do you have that information from? The planning page for the Airport Express Train claims normal operation...

coming from denmark, what would be the most scenic train route to take? maybe go to gothenburg then wut?
added on the 2011-05-10 11:54:32 by nic0 nic0
If you're going that way I guess you'd take the Intercity train to Moss and then change for the local train to Ås. I'm not quite sure if that route is any more sceninc than going by a car the same way though. Bohuslän and Østfold are dull no matter what..
