AMD APU thingy (I need a computer in 2014)

category: offtopic [glöplog]

My Laptop is about 5 years old so I'm thinking in buying a new PC, and the new AMD APU processor + GPU thingies will be out in 2 weeks or so. Are they good enough to replace a mid level GPU? Any opinion about it?
The shared memory might also be interesting to play with.

Your definition of mid level? ;) The graphics part it's likely around the hd6670 on that link above (ie 'minimum'), as it will be very bandwidth constrained. And for a prebuilt machine I bet you will get some cheap 1333/1600mhz ram slowing it down.
But from a functionality standpoint / to play around with, the architecture is quite nice of course.

I'd wait for the benchmarks first, it's too early to say.

New Laptop or Desktop?
When buying a laptop I'd go for a proper GPU - You won't be able to upgrade for the next 5 years...
When buying a Desktop stick with the IGP and upgrade when needed (and cheap)...
