[Troll] 'No wage rises' until 5% jobless rate

category: residue [glöplog]
Hi.
Some may remember me as an amiga demo coder.
After 12 years working as a depressive pleb computer employee, and after realizing it ruined my life, I quited my job and spent the last winter doing an OpenGLES2 game with shaders and all for android and ios with both a free and a profitable version. In the process I totally ripped off the work of some demosceners, but noone noticed, because obviously, as 99.99% of the indi games it failed miserably in oblivion and I ended being alcoholic and returned to live at my parent's house at 40. What will the future be made of ? I don't know. I don't care. Go fuck yourselves.

Shaders don't make a game.

Already did. I have no idea what the gameplay should be based on the video and I notice a huge discrepancy between the HUD graphics and the game itself. The game itself looks much better on the device than the video would suggest, but it's still a mishmash of different styles of graphics. The gameplay itself seems appealing and the concept of moving between satellites is a nice idea, but I end up just running around with red circles or something. Let me shoot, dammit.

Some hint: If you want a game like this to succeed, it needs to be a lot more intuitive and colourschemes that would have been great on the Amiga in 1991 don't cut it in the mobile business in 2014. And at a price point like €5.49, practically no one will buy it. And considering that the App Store is filled with a gazillion games, you really need to do marketing as well.

"the future", being a concept, not an object, isn't really made of anything.

it doesn't seem fair to suggest you go make a demo about it.. maybe an intro would be more sensible?

> I have no idea what the gameplay should be based on the video

Oh ! You were expecting a flappy bird or candy crush clone, so you could have an idea in 1.5 seconds ? Most of what's in the game has been invented for it, that's my ideal of Quality, deal with it.

> I notice a huge discrepancy between the HUD graphics and the game itself.

Let me laugh: Must be the first time you see a real multitouch HUD thought for a Haptic Game, it just have nothing in common with desktop-based interfaces of course. Just so you know, I worked on HUD with interface experts in the air army and other research places. There is even a technical article about it here: The new Interface Paradigm in Mobile Games.

> ...still a mishmash of different styles of graphics.

Because you can't say it's ugly, you search something else to say. Mishmash really ? Well That defines perfectly the graphics in successful video games since 20 years.

> The gameplay itself seems appealing and the concept of moving between satellites is a nice idea.

Yes it does, happy you mention it.

> Let me shoot, dammit.
You could shoot if you had understood how the HUD works, which takes 10 more seconds of attention span.

> Bla bla colourschemes mobile business ...
If I had done a color satured game, You would have said "bla bla deutsch colorscheme". It doesn't mean anything in the end really.

> €5.49

No it's € 3.80 since one month !!! You're killing my business ! How does it come you get the old price ? In what country are you ? Fucking google.

> practically no one will buy it. [...] you really need to do marketing as well.

I had some sales on iPad when it was at €7, but shown on the "new app page" !
The quality of the game is * not in question * , really. Stores allows Billions of customers, but had millions apps, and both google and apple sell referencement. I did the marketing I could do on my own (some of it is visible here), but Referencing is a question of fundings, and I don't want to enter that game.

Next time, I will just come here and order you all to work for free on my new game, which will be a stupid fps clone. Just to irritate you all.

Finland / iOS.

And for the rest, I have only this to offer you: :D. Good luck with your approach.

krabob: you're complaining your game didn't pick up; Preacher bothered to check it out and is giving you sound advice on how to improve it; you're being defensive instead of listening to his points. That's not very smart of you. If that's your attitude whenever anyone tries to help you it's no wonder the game tanked.

It's really not that unbelievable. Commonplace really. (Sadly.)

I'm afraid there are a lot of misconceptions about stores and apps around...
You guys are always stuck in the nineties with your desktop towers ! Get back to the real world so-called elites !
It is my turn to be nice and "bother myself" to explain:

When I say The quality of my game is "not in question", I don't mean it is the best game ever if it ever meant something, I mean :

1. Its quality is good enough to have made it way more successful than it has been. (some people bought it after having tried it and wasn't bothered by HUD problems whatsoever). This is the objective version.( My personal version is: "Finally that game makes tablet worth.". Oh, and I find all games done in the 2000's so far are unplayable and awful. Can I ? )

2. The real question is: how locked the referencing is, on stores and elsewhere.
In other words: Quality has less and less weight in google/apple app referencing.

Obviously because first, both sells referencing, which works with bidding: so their interest to reference a quality app that doesn't use the extra-bidding-referencing system is non-existent, so the bidding can get high.

So, "Independant" companies would raise funds just for referencing but also: buy install driving, which means buying fictive downloads to companies whose jobs is to sell that (by slice of 5000, jsyk)...

Usually, software companies don't tell their investors there is no real users because they are also meant to gain money with ads inside the apps and refund the investors with it... Oh ! It looks like they neither have to tell their developers that the so-called 20,000 downloads (or more) displayed on the stores are totally fictional and that in fact no one likes or play their game neither in real life. Banks are very happy because this system creates debts, even if it defines perfectly an economic bubble.

The only sad guy is the guy that did a quality video game, that absolutely no one have a possible chance to know the existence (to be clear: so to ever test it, so we'll never know if that fucking ace hud is a mishmash.)

I had enough stats and curves on several games over the last years to know I'm right.

The quality of my game is "not in question".

Not sure what you really want. You clearly know everything better so you dismiss any form of advice. It does not seem like you actually want to improve the situation.

... and by the way, I would like a link to "that successfull mobile app" which Preacher *designed the HUD himself*:
As ps and gargaj talk about him as a great tablet interface designer I should learn from, I would be happy to compare his work to mine, so I can measure the way I still have to go...

Hoooo don't tell me ? He never did any mobile mulktitouch app ? Or He just did those horrible fps where the hud only consist of the score written exactly at the same place as I did ?

You seem to misunderstand Preacher in this aspect. There's a great difference between interface design and art style. Preacher meant art style. The lookings/shading/colors of the game are inconsistent with the ones from the HUD. I second that. Oh and I've also only worked with professionals, so here's my "sorry" as well, for not being able to show you the one game designed by myself.
