Maybe the first oric giga demo.

Just some technical information: The oric is a 1mhz 6502 based machine, with 48kb of memory (including video), 8 available colors, and two screen modes (text: 40x24 and hirez:240x200). It takes nearly 2 vbls to clear the screen... go figure :)

Probably the best Oric demo I have seen from the very few ones..
This trick with the colorscanlined effects sometimes looks colorfull and cool, it's a good thing..

I can't believe some of these effects can be so smooth on the Oric ! I'm eagerly waiting for new demoes of this kind !-)

This is awesome. This demo made me realize that the oric could still be a very interesting machine to work on.

Oric was my very first computer and I'm totally amazed by this demo : I would never have imagined way back that such things were possible on that machine.

instant thumb up of courze: pushing a 20 year old machine to these limits is a hell of work !!!

Great demo.

BTW, to get it to work in Oricutron v0.1, when it refuses to acknowledge your keypress:

* Press F2 to enter the debugger
* Type "r vier $40" and hit enter
* Press F2 to exit the debugger

Hopefully i'll figure out why VIA interrupts are disabled at that point and fix it soon. Until then, that will enable you to watch the demo.

Yeah, should really try to spend the time to do videos of these demos, just so complicated to do it with the Oric, the machine has a very retarded video signal, and never been able to find anything that could record it decently.

hmmm.. no music in the video !?
added on the 2010-02-13 19:01:30 by lsl lsl
lsl: The party version did not have the music integrated due to a problem with the loader (we had to revert back to a system loader, which uses the 16k of top memory) so we had to strip out the music player as well (and a 10% cpu time penalty).

We had a version later with the sound, but got victim of a HDD crash while doing it, had no backups of course, so that's the only version I could find.

I guess if I had the courage I could try to rip out the files and replace the loader, but that was so long ago, and I was not the one writing the loader in first place, so this may prove to be difficult.
