another fast coded 64kb intro from us. Not what we firstly wanted to do but something we have had for some time in our minds, especially in relation with rendering.

Hope you enjoy it, although it's a bit weird ;)

I rather preferred this one on the videowall than on my monitor, but was rather nicer than their lastest 64k... A piggy for me

it seemed rather slow on my computer at home (Athlon XP1700+ & GF4 Ti4600)... will try at work. Music was quite horrible and not fitting, but I'll wait to see it fast to decide (maybe I just lost some synch-point effects due to slowness)

well, jota, due to the "artifact" used for rendering, this intro is quite CPU-hungry, that's why we have released several EXE's at different resolutions. I guess that with your CPU you should run the 400x300 version.

A bit slow on 3Ghz buy cool!
rulez added on the 2004-07-27 18:25:23 by pK pK
You must be doing something _really_ wrong to make it _that_ slow. :/

It looks like you're reading and writing on the whole(!) backbuffer for each frame to do this (rather dull) pixel distortion effect. This is NOT the way how to do 2d filters on 3d cards.
added on the 2004-07-27 18:45:39 by tomaes tomaes
And because of that, it SUCKS.

I'm guessing that agp bandwidth will kill the speed with a technique like that. On the system i have here i would expect it would have run way faster if it was pure software, or if it was done with pixel shaders. Maybe you're making the first intro to need a pci express video card though?

i think you can still keep framerate around 25-45fps reading/writing 640x480-800x600 buffers each frame :/

it was quite nice to see my taskmanager was also distorted by your routine when i tried to quit this... slow as hell (~3 frames) ... hmm.
sucks added on the 2004-07-27 19:35:23 by prost prost
I like the random thing of the demo, but the music is too nonsense..

for those ones who are blaming about the rendering here is an explanation about why have I do it that way.

First of all, I wanted to do some non-so-obvious rendering, so I had to decide between trying to do it with something like pixel shaders or doing it by software. Due to the lack of time I decided to do some tests about performance of glReadPixels/glWritePixels routines, and I was really surprised about the fact that the framerate didn't drop at all, so I took this way.

So if the prod works slow try it at a lower resolution, as the most of the work is done at the CPU. Maybe I release it without post-processing, though it would lose its essence. Pixel shaders is a future work for me, I have to find the time for it. Sorry, you CAN blame me for that :P

Ahem, the cpu has not much to do with the reason my this is so freaking slow. Your coding approach is just crap.

ran smoothly on 1,1ghz ....... gf4mx440 (!!!)
liked it, and how the rendring was done, all blurry and shit ;)

probably the slowest prod I've ever seen on my computer =)

ago : i think it's not news for you but still. just render2texture your rendered scene, then redraw it in 2d mode with any distortions you like. voila.

Make me sleepy and caused some headache but nothing more. No negative emotions or things what i like just saw once...

Supernice post-processing even if a bit slow. It exits setting up an insane refresh rate which brings my monitor on its knees. I'll eat your brain.

no-sound (just a click at the beginning)
didn't quit with esc
haven't looked it yet, waiting for a final with working sound

(Toshiba laptop, P4 2.8GHz, GeForce4 420Go, SoundMax Audio) I'm not going to try this on my other PC (a p3 500 =)

It worked quite fast on my machine. But I really didn't like the music. That's maybe why I thought it is quite boring.

go fuck yourself if you dont like my music ... criticising is easy, more productivity and less talkage....byebye guys

Snaked2: Don't upload your release here if you cannot stand negative criticism. Anyway, this one is boring.

First of all, I refuse sn@ked behaviour. We have to be prepared for bad critics. I know this prod is quite weird, music and rendering, you can like it or not.

But what we have to do is to learn from our mistakes, not getting angry that way. Sorry, but refusals for sn@ked

The rendering style is cool

The filter is really really cool, and I love the design.
Probably my fave concept prod except for the music, which is bit too random for my taste. The synch is very polished though.

too slow.
however some filter was cool.

Good sync & design, very cool post-processing filter agopowah, but i don't like the music :|
rulez added on the 2004-08-02 11:55:17 by KILE KILE
Nice filter to hide bad colours. Filter and intro would have been faster if done in realtime raytracing. Maybe I would have liked it if the sync would not have been crawling behind the music.

i dunno, i am torn on this one, its neat and made it into my "doesnt suck" folder but it does require a heafty machine to run 800x600 full frames, which makes it suck considering what it does

slow.

Ago, I just can't wait for a 64k of yours made with enough time :P. This thing ruled, although I didn't understand the music.

It's very slow, as pointed out previously, but I really love how it looks.. and I don't think the music was that bad.
