Very nice looking, due in part to smooth framerates, good lighting, and simple textures.

colours could be optimized sometimes, but there are a bunch of cool scenes in this intro
rulez added on the 2001-11-04 23:12:51 by robotriot robotriot
Yup, a very good prod indeed! Is the sugar tunnel antialiased btw?

Very nice design!!! The simplicity works well.

Very slick and nice

Thumbs up

Very nice intro, but the screenshot is not showing the best scene of the intro ;-)

It's a nice a neat intro.
rulez added on the 2001-11-05 10:10:52 by MooZ MooZ
i notice unik still are incapable of even rudimentary code optimization.

it's funny how demos/intros get less and less advanced while the requirements keep going up.

Cool intro.
So, thumbs up.

silky smooth gfx. not much besides that, but it looks and feels cool, so there. 8)

Very average. Simple numedia effects and a monotonic tune. Also surprisingly slow (especially since it's running on hardware).
added on the 2001-11-05 18:56:48 by noid noid
Got da beauty :)... keep up da beat, unikk. The colors suit the concept, the scenes are pretty, but I have to agree with matvei, pretty slow for a hardware demoo...
rulez added on the 2001-11-05 22:13:02 by Vip Vip
Maybe not so good code, but Unik exploit their full potential and make a very nice lookin intro.

But was this Unik`s full potential? I hope they prove me wrong :)
rulez added on the 2001-11-05 22:19:17 by Wain Wain
yeah RULEz !! :)
disco isn't dead. look at this track, a pur ft2 style disco music and it's sound good .

Woohoo! This one's sweet =)

Nice job, Unik...
Optimized code is nice, but that alone won't make a good intro.
Very pretty - smooth, nice music, nice effects, overall great job.

Wonderful use of tons of polygons.

Warp lost his password to pouet.net so he asked me to post this : "the intro is only slow on cards below gf2mx since render to texture sukkz ass..
can't change this."
added on the 2001-11-06 07:46:56 by Hatikvah Hatikvah
rtt IS slow, but not THAT slow, and I don't see why this intro would need it anyway (for that one 100% reflective cube? the standard mirroring algo would work perfectly and probably be faster too).

still, it's nice, clean, stylish, and it ruled in the compo.

"Optimized code is nice, but that alone won't make a good intro."

no, but bad code can make an otherwise nice intro shit.
added on the 2001-11-06 08:42:05 by _ _
What crappy systems do you guys have? I get *good* performance with my geforce2mx card.
i like this intro alot. :) the only thing that bothers me is the re-use of effects - doesn't suit this intro (or any production for that matter). it's better to do one kickass thing after another than to re-do stuff (like the haujobb-demo from dialogos01 - don't get me wrong, it's nice and all, but you don't show the same stuff over and over again :) ..but this intro rocks. :)

macaw: amd k6-2 with tnt2. yeh, not exactly top of the line, but it should be more than enough to run this sort of stuff <g>.
added on the 2001-11-07 01:21:28 by _ _
k6-2 333 that is. blah.
added on the 2001-11-07 01:22:36 by _ _
btw, interesting fact, this intro seemingly doesn't count as 3d flyby only because it uses checkerboard textures.

added on the 2001-11-08 10:35:34 by ryg ryg
Simple 3d flyby is considered as design.

Advanced 3d flyby is considered as boring.

It`s a law :)

added on the 2001-11-08 15:51:26 by Wain Wain
an intersting point you have there ryg :)
but I guess there's still too much action in ddm to call it flyby.
wain's theory is not bad either and has something true ;))
anyways, this intro is good !

ryg > since when is rendering to texture slow? it has never been slow in dx anyways.. as long as your rendertarget aint TO big.. i mean its the same shit afterall :>
added on the 2001-11-08 16:59:33 by Hatikvah Hatikvah
the difference between these kind of demos/intros here and 3d flyby ones is that they're non-objective. 3d flyby demos show concrete everydaylife objects, adapted from reality.

ryg: read the manifesto from cncd - it should give you a hint (even though cncd doesn't comply to their own manifesto).
yes, it pretty much hinted me at the fact that cncd sometimes wanna have fun looking at you shouting too :)
added on the 2001-11-08 19:20:50 by ryg ryg
lator, render to texture is slow because the textures aren't swizzled in the videocard's memory resulting in lots of caching problems (=slow rendering) and switching rendertargets is slower than it should be as well.

oh yes, btw, nice intro.
added on the 2001-11-08 22:23:34 by sagacity sagacity
Said it once, will say it again: "conversely, 'simple' flybys can be boring, 'advanced' flybys can be cool..."

It all depends on what's happening on the screen, how much 'alive' it is... This intro's dynamic enough to make things interesting and take it above a regular static flyby. And besides, the music owns :)
added on the 2001-11-09 00:29:45 by Vip Vip
saga> shouldnt be so slow.. since he really doesnt need to change that often on those thingys..

- 1 day later -

and no it wasnt.. it was the drivers fault.. just switched to latest detonator and it runs in high framerate on my tnt2 ..

(i have never lost many fps when i had 2 rendering targets per frame... however he renders the scene 2 times.. its not the render2texture problem)
added on the 2001-11-09 12:53:37 by Hatikvah Hatikvah

checked this ones sound ?
added on the 2003-05-19 04:45:16 by Igoronimo Igoronimo
igor: check your accusations first! yes, both tunes sound housy/disco and thats it.. !

scene event was (afair) short before dialogos, but i promise you i got the discoranger tune even earlier.
another fact: tpb01 used some mp3 music, discoranger got an .xm - i can send if you care! (i do not say it is not possible to cut out some samples from the mp3 but i think its hardly possible and one would hear the difference afterwards..)

so get yourself a doll to play with and do not spread silly rumours! dhg does not need to rip.
added on the 2003-05-19 12:22:37 by warp warp
i never spotted *any* link between taboo_stories.mp3 (and actually originally an xm) and this intro's xm. really, nothing at all :)

warp: check the "rumours" first before you try to rubbbb ya head against my knee...

i never said DHG ripped something from OKKIE or vice versa...

i just asked why do these 2 songs sound same... xm vs. mp3, forgett it... was not my point of view... so, if you check them both, they r very similar !!! you cant tell me that they dont have the same beat, background... so, i cant believe that 2 musicians have had the same ideas for a song... i think they both "ripped" the same song... so what ? i only wanted to know what song...

so get yourself a banana to play with and do not offend me again...

nice code...

The 'sugar tunnel' is nice, but most other scenes are pretty pointless and the music is -flat- nothing but a disco beat. no melody.

I'm not trying to piss out long gone campfires, but the tpb-01 track was actually made under the guidelines of "make it sound like something like sexadelic", afaik -hence the sine lead ;)

Oh, the intro crashed on my box. :(
