A PHP script generating a stream of images. You can get up to and over 11 FPS on fast computers. Run the web server and browser on different cores/computers. Sadly, it only works in Firefox.

using Flash or DHTML you'd have achieve full frame rate, and music.

Thanks for providing a kkapture :) what do yo mean by streaming the images. Is the connection kept open and the images flushed to the client ? also wouldn't it be a bit faster using PNGs ?

isn't it the same as saying "using an pc instead of an amiga you would have achieved full frame rate bloom and hdr" ?
it's more along the lines of using Amiga instead of Atari.

ok. Just had a look at the code. Cool, I didn't know about the Content-Type: multipart/x-mixed-replace.

Why is there 2 ob_flush(); flush(); ? Shouldn't one be enough ? According to the comments on php.net this streaming techinque works at least in IE 6, FF 1.0 and Safari 2.0

Cool Idea! The platform counts, not the framerate. Seems here are to many gamers around...

congrats for the medium, but the result is junk.
if your not concerned about frame rate then anything is possible....

I can't get it to work on my webserver. I got libgd installed and the php5 extension. but all I get is a redirection to the top folder...? Using apache2 and php5 using mod_proxy and ssl.
What webservers did you guys test it on?

well, it isnt a real demo attempt, more a proof of concept. the whole point is to do all drawing on the server side and see what framerates were possible.

the flushes are a result of changing various things and finally getting it to work. I'll see if I can get it working in the other browsers as well. One strange bug im having is that you have to press stop and then reload in FF for it to go past the first image.

I developed it on linux/lighttpd +php with fastcgi, and also tested it on linux/apache.

A live demo webserver on the net would be nice ;)

Yes it would. Do you have a spare cpu connected to a fat pipe? :)

Server side drawing ftw. Cool.

I'm sorry but I can't approve a demo that only works in one browser and that requires extra libs installed on a standard webserver to work.

Check the other demos available in the php demo section of pouet.
