oustanding beautiful production made by some positive thinking people of farbrausch!
the colors blew me away at breakpoint when this was shown at the bigscreen (no lsd used!). This production is rocking bigtime!

I really loved this demo! Too bad that the singing was so annoying, it would have been much better with "normal singing"

This is some slick shit! Slick slick slick. Perfect length and visuals and everything. (Too bad FSAA in DirectX doesn't seem to always work with the latest detonators. I hope Nvidia fix that soon...)

Like an american movie : no brain but massive entertainment, and it's cooler to watch it on bigscreen with audience than on your little pc alone (which does not necessary fits the requirements btw =)

This is one of the best demo i have seen in my life!
many seems to complain about the soundtrack,
but i must say that i liked it alot!, (great variation in styles).
I have been watching this show for awhile now,
and i cant really find anything to complain about.
Very good work Farbraush! & thanks for the colors!
By this moment iam starting to get very tired of all those: "IDM,industrial, dark, goth with poetic quotes" releases.
And people are talking bout to be innovative.

I can't believe I'm thumbing up something by Farb-rausch. Fr-08 bored me to death, A Poem to a Horse did the same and most others (except for 010) weren't much better... But this one is just too fun and cute to hate. No complaints except for the godawful singing.

What are the machine requirement for this prod ??? For some strange reason it refuses to run on my Dell Dimension 4400 (Pentium 4 2.0ghz, GeForce 3 Ti 500, SbLive, 512 megs)... it just displays a black screen for few seconds, and then exits.

Any idea ?

DBug: fr-025 should run on a Geforce2MX at reasonable speed. Everything else is a bug. Actually it is reported to work on even older stuff, but framerate gets really bad.

Till now i got very few bugreports, but there seems to be something fishy. Mostly, i suspect that 32 MB videoram is too "close", sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Please mail me the exact configuration of your gfx-card, ok?

This was one of the MOST impressive demos I ever saw on a a big screen!!! Really great work, fR !!
Breakpoint had so many VERY NICE releases that it was almost unfair to go voting at all !!! It was also VERY hard to decide between the KOLOR demo and this one which should be #1 !! Well, crowd has decided then anyways... ;-D
And I can surely live with that result !!

THIS piece simply BLEW me away when I was sitting at the party at the big screen! And the applause AFTER it was shown simply gave me the complete REST then!! :-D Simply UNBELIEVABLE !!!

+ for design
+ for very fitting music style (mixture between new and oldschool disco!!)
+ for over all presentation and COLORS !!!

MEGA+ for FARBRAUSCH !!! :-DD

I like the clean rendering of this demo.

The face shading, glow and stencil reflections look really good.

The scene seems rendered a first time with no lighting enabled, glow colors with inteligently choosen alpha value to a texture, including stencil reflections of the scene.

The rendered content is then copied to a texture (or is it direct rendering to texture?) with auto-mipmap generation enabled. This can be really slow on older hardware or shit drivers because the content of the rendered scene might be downsampled on the CPU, which implies a fucking slow texel transfert between 3d accelerator and system memory.

After this is completed, the 3d scene is rendered completelly, in the same way as an ordinary flybie.

Then, the "glow pass" is acheived, the code looks really similar to radial blurring with a 3d accelerator on that part, except we can notice an intelligent use of LOD to acheive the roundy lighty shape arround objects. To perform transitions, the alpha value of primary color is simply increased during the transition to saturate the screen to white.

All in all, this falls in the genre of effect improved flybies, and as a result, even if I enjoyed watching it 2 or 3 times, I don't know if I will remenber that demo in a few months. Magia by TBL is 10 times more impressive in my taste.

As far as production values go, FR has again raised the bar. Could easily sit beside any video on MTV... really. It's so flawlessly designed and executed, i'm surprised no one's hired them to make commericals yet. KEEPS MY FAITH IN THE DEMOSCENE ALIVE! btw: most all the breakpoint demos have raised the bar - get them all!

well, i've always respected fr, but between the demo with josie and this one i can say that my only reservation has been evaporated.. i thought they lacked soul, but a demo and an intro prove me very wrong.. at any rate, i have to say, i think the vocals here rock.. i defy any of the nay sayers to find me a eurodisco track with male vocals that is any better than this.. in fact, i've got it stuck in my head right now. and as for being an mtv video clip, well, whatever, there's all sorts of dope code in here that qualifies this as top o' the line demo material.. just to be judicious i'll mention two minor negatives.. a) it's too short and b) the funky dancin' was done better in digital murder's just a touch of funk.. judged on it's own terms though, this is much too good a bit of digital crack for anyone to be scoffing at when they're getting supplied for free.

Well, another real good demo by FR... Actually, i've just been watching fr-030, so i first though the vocals were indeed vocoded... Seems they're not indeed... Very nice idea to keep the meshes, would i say, flat-shaded? Well, not exactly, but anyway. I really love it. It'd been better with another kind of music, but it's a thing about tastes.
A further comment, it's too bad there are so few different actual choregraphies. I only seen three different. Maybe i'm wrong? Oh, and a few sparkles would fit the ambiance perfectly...

Yeah I have to say I prefer the original soundtrack more, but the new one is slightly more intelligible. Are there any visual tweaks besides the scrolling HUND in the first disco scene?
added on the 2003-06-18 22:42:16 by Jerware Jerware
blue 7: actually there are a lot of visual tweaks in the final version (animation, camera, models, material, light, sync...). as most of them are rather detail improvements than radical changes, the effect might be subliminal. yet, if you´d directly compare both versions, the improvement would become obvious.
unfortunately the general problem with final versions is, that some people will always prefer certain aspects of the original version over the new ones. e.g. it´s a bit strange to see that lots of people complained about the bad vocals and now that the final is out, many others want them back :)
personally i prefer the new vocals a lot. yet, this, as everthing else, is a matter of taste...

Well, when I compare this thing to the demos that were done 10 years ago, I come to think: What will demos look like in 2013, if this trend continues? Will they be so mind-blasting that you get stoned from just watching them? I cannot believe that a better demo is possible. Please fr, prove me wrong at bp04!

at last a demo that has the style of gay house music.

and has anyone noticed that you can sing the lyrics of kylie minogue's "spinning around" to it? :)

"But I was kinda disappointed you didn't increase the size of the bulge in that disco guy's pants."

"I absolutely love the way the guy wiggles his hips now."

"btw - the guy would probably walk normal if you loosened up his pants a bit..."

"This guy is my idol"

As much as I've understood it, this is not a guy, but a girl. After all, a certain "Sarah Hill" is credited for animations.

No, it's a guy. Sarah Hill is a professional animator we know. We didn't use motion capturing or anything like that :)

I agree with the people saying it looks like a girl.
I suppose Sarah Hill made a sort of self-portrait? The movements look like female physiology anyway.

Like somebody said: i was expecting to hate the demo, but after seeing such nice colors i could only like it !

This demo is a definite no-brainer, but it's entertainment to the max and just visually mindblowing.

Still a definite killer although this fails to reach you on a "higher" level.

unison: StarAc is StarAc, fr-025 is fr-025.

StarAc stole the discoman, fr-025 is disco spirit. StarAc is 100% commercial, fr-025 is 100% free scene spirit. Popularity is their unique common denominator.

Lemming, fishbone: are you that poor-minded ?

gay culture brought a lot of creativity to pop culture and open-mind to society.

Yo listen up, here's a story
About a little guy that lives in a blue world
And all day and all night and everything he sees
Is just blue like him inside and outside
Blue his house with a blue little window
And a blue Corvette and everything is blue for him
And his self and everybody around
'Cause he ain't got nobody to listen (to listen, to listen, to listen)

I'm blue, da ba dee da ba dai da ba dee da ba dai
Da ba dee da ba dai da ba dee da ba dai
Da ba dee da ba dai da ba dee da ba dai
Da ba dee da ba dai I'm blue, da ba dee da ba dai da ba dee da ba dai
Da ba dee da ba dai da ba dee da ba dai
Da ba dee da ba dai da ba dee da ba dai
Da ba dee da ba dai

I have a blue house with a blue window
Blue is the color of all that I wear
Blue are the streets and all the trees are too
I have a girlfriend and she is so blue
Blue are the people here that walk around
Blue like my Corvette, it's standing outside
Blue are the words I say and what I think
Blue are the feelings that live inside me

I'm blue, da ba dee da ba dai da ba dee da ba dai
Da ba dee da ba dai da ba dee da ba dai
Da ba dee da ba dai da ba dee da ba dai
Da ba dee da ba dai I'm blue, da ba dee da ba dai da ba dee da ba dai
Da ba dee da ba dai da ba dee da ba dai
Da ba dee da ba dai da ba dee da ba dai
Da ba dee da ba dai

Excellent : everything is excellent in it !

music = 19/20 everything is perfect except sad lyrics (she left tomorow)

gfx = 19/20 all is excellent except the dance on circle (final part)

code = 20 / 20 smooth, colorfull, fast, tiny, music synchro

anim = 20 / 20 smooth, perfectly dancing

Well, the first demo for a long time (till the same team build a sequel :) ). Thanks U all at farbraush for this.

btw. the soundscore is a copy: or should i rather say that it was inspired? by some pop song from the break of 80s and 90s called `Night in Motion`. the atmosphere of that song and this soundtrack is quite the same. (it's mentioned nowhere within the demo, though.. :-( )

This demo blew me away! I had been away from the scene for seven years and couldn't even imagine how far demos had come. The colorful dancefloor used in the screenshot is the best scene. With motion capture used to animate the dancing robots The Popular Demo would have been perfect!

That's odd, when I first came to this link, it said 99% popularity, now it says 100% popularity. But, well, duh, the popular demo. Anyway. What I wanted to say was now that I know what the words are to the tune, I have to say the lyrics are EXTREMELY well written, and this is the best lyrical tune I have yet heard from the scene.
I love this demo more and more :]

shows what modern pcs can do, but fails to amaze me in other ways. it's well designed, has a shiny layer of coating, but neither the music nor the choreography are MTV video music awards class... this is all leaving my tastes out of view, because i really fucking hate disco!! ;)

short: thumb up for technical side and shiny polish, but fails to amaze me otherwise and i dislike the theme..

I can't believe it that people thumb it down. That one is really a masterpiece of elegance with no exception. (i need a second thumb for it ;) )
This piece of code should work on every average gfx-card. VGA is not up-to-date anymore ;)
Well musicvideos are demos too, musicians demonstrate viewers something.

Of course a popular demo! ;) But it can't mess with those beautiful 64k demos. > for me unexciting, unrefreshing & too commercialy :)
@thumb downs: There is a lot of realtime & creativity in this demo, too (no video or animation). Is it so hard to recognize the differenz?

It's really hard to vote consistently, and this intro is particulary tough one: I know the code has to be good and the visuals look pro. but the overall visual and audio impression it gives makes me want to vomit. Also there are no innovative visual effects, so it feels empty and hollow. I have had a hard time understanding the appeal of this one.

+ for code and really professional output, - for lack of real innovation, repetition, a style that (while great in its own class) i didn't like at all and a horrible soundtrack. i've heard a lot cheesier and better disco humppa's than this.

fuck you trx, of course i can thumb down a demo if it's style is hideous in my opinion :-) there are far better scene prods than this but as said earlier, popular != not always the best choice. but it's ok, tad better than average grey mass.

The 'final2' version doesn't work with latest nvidia-drivers (163.71) and e.g. a GF8800 GTX card properly anymore! :-((((((

For example the first scene with the stairs when the doors open and the figure is stepping down the stairs the screen is almost dark and you'll only see the shining-effect from behind the figure! :-/
More similar scenes during the ongoing of the demo coming up later, too!

So, is there gonna be a 'final3' version soon??? *praying for it at least!!* :-)

It's luckily true, it seems! :-D
With the currently latest nvidia drivers (v163.75) everything is working fine again and you can enjoy fr025 in full effect without any problems!
(tested on a 8600GTS chipset with 256mb)

Just to let everyone else know here as well, whoever might have wondered about similar problems before! ;-)

gf8 series drivers are still kinda dodgy (pretty bad considering those cards have been around for quite some time now). from what i've seen on pouet, there are problems with a lot of demos, not just our ones...
added on the 2007-11-11 16:21:04 by ryg ryg
True, true! But you can't get along without such a thing these days anymore if you want to stay up-to-date though!

The drivers since gf8 series went pretty bad, true! But I guess that's mostly because of their dumb vista-beta support trials blaaa.... :-/

Anyways, at the moment it's working (again) and I hope it'll stay that way also in future from now on! ;-)

Bye,
Weasel
added on the 2007-11-13 18:08:23 by Weasel Weasel
nope, it's mostly because the g80 is very different from previous nv parts, guess it took them quite some time to figure out how to actually use the hw efficiently... in any case, it involves a rewrite of a lot their code, so it's pretty bug-prone.
added on the 2007-11-13 18:58:44 by ryg ryg
Short but sweet. :) The best part must be the one in the screenshot above, where that gay man doesn't dance like a girl! :)

That's the only way this demo could have gotten better - imagine a hot girl modeled by a girl! ok, lol.

Anyway, realism and textures are overrated. And Imagine credits that are not in Arial! thumbs up t'is...

i like this a lot. some parts of the music (the melodic phrases, the artificial-sounding tom drums), the colors, and the tunnel sequence really make this enjoyable. one thumb from me to you.

This demo is so ... different :D I understand it's a reference to many popular songs (and after seeing the .k1 source even more so) and it does it absolutely perfect! The music is what you expect from a popular tune - catchy, simple, with instant hooks, visuals are - well, just say DISCO, and even the kitschy font fits! This is absolutely 100% spot on and perfectly put together.

Tonight, tonight ...

I never understood why this is and was so "popular". It's a fine demo, but make it one of the all-time greatest demos made? Please.."Debris", the top demo, is not just better than this one, it's HUGELY better - despite the years that separate them - at all levels, and several ASD's productions are TREMENDOUSLY better aswell.

But hey, its a nice product, just not my cup of tea. A piggy for that.

It should be called the.POPular.product, I dont' see anything very much impressive in it, just a well made disco theme (which I don't like) to please the masses. A Justin Bieber or Hannah Montana of the demoscene. I'd thumb it down if it wasn't a clever marketing success of Farbrausch. And I'd thumb it up if it was 64k. So, piggie.
