   This demo was made to compete at the Assembly'94 convention   ║   ██     ██
   held in the beginning of August in Helsinki, Finland.         ║   ██     ██
   We were very happy to achieve a second place in the competi-  ║   ▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄
   tion, earning a total of 726 points (175 points away from the ║   ▀▀▀▀▀▀▀██
   winner but still a fair 313 points left to the third place).  ║       █  ██
      Assembling the demo took less than one week from idea to   ║   ████████▀
   competition EXE-file, but naturally most of the coding and    ║   ▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄
   our tailor-made tools we used for the demo was programmed in  ║   ██▀▀▀▀▀██
   advance to be used in our Virtual Reality project.            ║   ██     ██

                             THE CASCADA VIRTUAL REALITY SECTION ║   ▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄

   Cascada VR Section was formed by four members of the original ║       █  ██
   Cascada in order to develop a high performance and low price  ║   ████████▀
   Virtual Reality system which you can read more about below.   ║

   We have decided to drop all the old CDA distribution sites as ║   ███▀▀███▀
   our projects are mainly commercial and it doesn't really make ║
   any difference as every demo oriented BBS eventually will get ║
   the productions anyway if they're any good. You could check   ║   ▄▄   ▄▄▄
   the Imphobia Cascada sites for our stuff too, though.         ║   ██  █▀▀██

   In case you didn't notice, what we used to call the Cascada   ║   ██▀▀█▀▀██
   Demo Section (CDS) has teamed up with belgian crew Imphobia   ║   ██  █  ██
   and formed Imphobia Cascada. This group will release the well ║   ██  ▀  ██
   known Imphobia diskmagazine as well as demos and other kinds  ║    ▄▄▄▄▄▄▄
   of productions as long as it sticks together.                 ║   ██▀▀▀▀▀██

              INFORMATION ON THE CASCADA VIRTUAL REALITY PROJECT ║   ██     ██

   We are frequently asked about our VR-project so we though we  ║          ██
   should include some information on this.                      ║   █████████
      One year ago we started developing a VR-platform which is  ║          ██
   based on the PC architecture. The system is being developed   ║   ▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄
   for a Pentium/P6 multiprocessor environment to make perfor-   ║   ▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀
   mance improvements easy by just adding more processors.       ║   ▄███████▄
      The system will support 6 degrees of steering freedom for  ║   ██     ██
   a truthful perceptance of realistic movement in all direct-   ║   ██▄▄▄▄▄██
   ions and in any angle.                                        ║    ▀▀▀▀▀▀▀

   Among the graphical features our 3D-engine supports are:      ║   ▀▀▀▀▀▀▀██
   ■ Full stereographic vision, the field of view will depend    ║          ██
     on the HeadMountedDisplay used.                             ║   ████████▀

   ■ Shading models:    Flat shading, Goraud shading,            ║
                        Phong shading, Depth shading.            ║      ▐█▌

   ■ Surface types:     Single colored, Texture mapped,          ║      ▐█▌

   ■ All the shading models can be applied to any of the surface ║   ▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄
     types. This means that you can have phong shaded textured   ║   ▀▀▀▀█▀▀▀▀
     maps for instance.                                          ║       █

   ■ The world editor will support a screenshot option that ray- ║    ▄▄▄▄▄▄▄

     This might be of great interest for architects who want     ║   ██     ██

   So that everyone could enjoy this demo we had to reduce the   ║   ██▀▀▀▀▀▀▀
   graphics to 320x200 in 256 colours. Our system normally runs  ║   ██
   at 640x400 in truecolor which greatly improves the realism.   ║   ██

   The sound consists of both multiple 3D sounds that match the  ║   ▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀
   visual events in the 3D world and some background 'movie'     ║   ▄▄   ▄▄▄
   music to give a more filmastic feeling.                       ║   ██  █▀▀██
   All this in 48KHz 16-bit CD-quality sound.                    ║   ██  █  ██

   OK, so now for some general demo information:                 ║

   SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS / RECOMMENDATIONS ╞═══════════════════════╩═══════════╗

      Holistic requires a i386 processor with a  standard VGA card and 4MB   ║
      4MB total memory (2,8MB available extended memory and 590KB base) to   ║
      run at all.  We recommend  you to run it on a i486DX/66, preferrably   ║
      with VLB and a Gravis Ultrasound card  (of course the optimal config   ║
      would be a Pentium with  PCI and all that  stuff or whatever  is the   ║
      most powerful processor when you read this.  ;)  However we STRONGLY   ║
      recommend you to run the demo with a soundcard.  Silent demos are so   ║
      boring (and besides if you run the demo in silence you won't be able   ║
      to enjoy Zodiak's jolly music..!). Go get a Gravis.                    ║

      Of course we still support  the SoundBlaster, SoundBlaster16 & Covox   ║
      cards besides  the Gravis Ultrasound,  even though you should have a   ║
      Gravis card to achieve the best possible sound quality.                ║

   LOADING AND ENJOYING THE DEMO ╞═══════════════════════════════════════════╣

      When you've watched the demo hopefully you'll understand why we want   ║
      you to do it on a fast 486. The code is not slow or very unoptimized   ║
      - it just requires a great deal of machine power -.                    ║
      Just in case someone is wondering - this demo is _NOT_ an animation!   ║
            > Everything is _realtime_ calculated by your machine. <         ║
      Of course if we had had another 1-5 days to finish the demo we could   ║
      have added fancy bitmaps, more music, maybe even some design........   ║
      We do know for sure though that if we don't release this demo now we   ║
      will never  get around to it so it's  better to bring you this as it   ║
      is, get it off our shoulders and move towards the next project.        ║
      Please have some patience  after the setup-screen.  Loading the demo   ║
      may take a while as basically all the data is loaded into the memory   ║
      at that time.                                                          ║

   TROUBLESHOOTING ╞═════════════════════════════════════════════════════════╣

      We suspect that you may encounter problems on some computers if you    ║
      choose to execute the demo with only HIMEM.SYS loaded.                 ║
      The demo is supposed to work fine with any memory manager like QEMM    ║
      EMM386, CEMM and 386^MAX, so if you have one of these you shouldn't    ║
      have any difficulties in starting the demo.If the demo fails to run    ║
      with only HIMEM.SYS installed, please try loading a memory manager.    ║
      You can try with HIMEM.SYS loaded first if you want though, on most    ║
      configurations it should run perfectly like that.                      ║
                                                                             ║
      The demo  won't report if there is not  enough base memory free, so    ║
      you'd better check that yourself. Holistic requires 590KB base mem.    ║
      SoundBlaster16 owners MUST choose SoundBlaster16 in the Setup.         ║

      If we get a lot of feedback from people who've experienced problems    ║
      while executing the demo we might release a small patch later...       ║
