phase modulation (FM) with a saw wave should give you hard-sync. not sure if that is possible in 4klang (or it might be the same thing Sesse is talking about, can't think too hard right now :))

Phase modulation is PM, not FM (although FM and PM are the same, just with an integrator in the middle). And yes, PM with a sawtooth is exactly what I'm talking about. :-)

I know PM and FM are not the same, the reason I wrote it that way is b/c what most people think of as FM (i.e. Yamaha DX series) is actually phase modulation inside the box.

It's much easier/cheaper to implement and the results are mostly the same (just switch the waveforms of the modulator around).

I don't think you could get the sync effect with real FM, though as the integrated version of a saw wave is just a straight line :)
