Heya. I just woke up with a hideous ringing in my ear, and thought "damn that loud music at tUM".
The party was really great, but the volume was definetly to loud. This goes for nearly every party that I have been at; I don't want to wake up 24 hours after the party with a loud ringing in my ears, which wears off, but still leaves permanent damages. I have brought ear protection for most parties that I have attended to, but I sadly didn't have anything for tUM. I don't think that my ears are *that* sensitive, and I am sure that most people that attends to the parties without earprotection are experiencing the same problems with their ears.

I'll just pack cottonballs or something with the towel and so on, and if someone needs hearing plugs (which aren't always a bad idea) I should have them. Might not be a bad thing to maybe have at the infodesk either. And certainly if you have a hearing issue you should have 'em too, but yeah, if you forget something, having a backup source is cool.

I just can't imagine anyone *not* taking any damage from the level of the volume, really.
The usual excuse is that so people in the back of the hall can hear the compos, but yeah, i'd rather have a bunch of normal-sized speakers evenly spread from the front to the back of the hall, than one set of gi-fncking-gantic speakers only up front. i'm sure there are issues, cost, speaker cable, installation, yadda yadda yadda..
Oh I'm sure I take damage from more than just volume. But it's kinda my choice and all (:

damn right. That TUM jingle was ear-blast-tastically loud as was bp's jingle.
the hifi sucked a bit indeed.... but still it wasnt too loud unless you didnt sit at the compo 5m from the speaker. graga, if you can't take it don't show up at demoparties ! :P
if you told me before, i still have like 50 packs of earplugs here (without scx-logo though).
the soundsystem at tum was really unbearable. the first compos were somewhat hard to enjoy due to 90% bass and 10% actual sounds.

Maybe I'm deaf already, but sitting in the third row (and directly in front of the speakers during the compos), I didn't think the volume was too high.

on the other hand: if you found yourself to be a person that doesn't like too high noise levels (so am I) then simply get yourself some earplugs for the next party or, as truck already said, fake them with pieces of a towel.
I started to take my earplugs with me everywhere: parties, concerts, demoparties. it's also easier to sleep with them at demoparties.

on the other hand: if you found yourself to be a person that doesn't like too high noise levels (so am I) then simply get yourself some earplugs for the next party or, as truck already said, fake them with pieces of a towel.

I was on the left FRONT row at BP04. I did all the party with ear plugs and had a major heart failure at every jingle... Too loud but acceptable. I guess no other solution was easy to set up due to the tunnel configuration of the place.
Anyway, a good solution when no earplugs is tu use slightly swallowed toilet paper. It tastes Mc Donald's chicken and is incredibly efficient! The major advantage it has is that it makes non linear sound stopping. Eg: You can put your head in the sono witouht pain and in same time the guy near you doesn't need to shout to get heard...

I like it when the volume makes your penis fall off. I have exceptionally good hearing, but always crank the volume in my headset extremely loud. I think you're all just a bunch of wussies.
I remember the last time someone told me that had "exceptionally good hearing, but always crank the volume." It was outside in the summer, and he went to great lengths to explain what a wussy I was for not enjoying extreme loundness.
Shortly after his rant, I began complaining about the continuously looped Joplin tunes eminating from a nearby ice-cream truck. He told me I was hallucinating because there was definitely no music coming from the truck.
He then proceeded to walk over to buy ice-cream and discovered just how shitty his "exceptionally good hearing" really was.
Another such story is this friend who regularly visited punk shows without hearing protection. He told me his hearing was so good he could hear electricity. It took some time to finally convince him he was in fact suffering from tinnitus.
Moral of the story: Nobody is immune to the damaging effects of loud music.

I got 9 out of 9 even though I had been blasting missiles and shooting guns a lot of the year. Maybe we have a different opinion on what is loud and what is not. I did not attend TUM. :)
