preselection sucks

_-__-__-__-_-_-_ yes, and that is what's pissing me off... next time instead quite good tune i'll just make senseless "compo music" track which will at least enter the compo...

ah okay, i'm less upset now... i'll avoid the music compo and will do some track for demo : ))

we had 75 streaming music entries. i think we can all agree that 4-hour music compos aren't a particularly good idea.

when you have to throw out three quarters of all releases, there's no chance you can be fair to everyone.

ryg ok, thanks for explanation, i know myself that judging is a difficult job...

If the entry was only 11 seconds I don't think that anyone would have minded seeing it. I wouldn't mind it after watching "you need to listen" anyway.
hmm.. im thinking i should start organizing parallel enoughrecords music compos to parties.. where ppl submit their non pop tracks to get them played in a ghettoblaster around the bonfire.. beers beeing randomly awarded for the moral winners by the passing crowd.

Maybe we could hook up with your side compos, and bring a laptop with a large enough screen for non-mainstream demos and wilds?

nicolas: sounds like a plan. shadowparty alternative compos ^^ for anti-pop media only :)

For music compos there's only one solution: Skip them and drink beer outside, they're full of crap anyways.

actually, i think it's about time to replace the people responsible for the preselection now. obviously they aren't up for the task and i think that the main orgas should do their job and let other people try it instead of just defending the ones doing it now. maybe a new set of people wouldn't do it better but we wouldn't be hearing the same kind of tunes every year (and i think that bores the audience even more!)

to be honest, i'd say that the music compos need a revamp alltogether. right now they are boring and not that many people are interested in them.

The other idea I had was for executable demos to have two different demos in the executable, one that is meant to pass the selection, and the other one which only runs once the date is after a certain time ;>

actually, filipe, drop the "compo" word even :)

alternative bonfire production fights!

gemini: that's exactly WHAT WE DID this year - we asked for musicians to join the jury and in the end we had about 10--15 other ppl in it (wayfinder, please correct me if I'm wrong).

So what does this say?

nosfe: word.

btw: can anyone explain to me why jcos entry did not make it into the streaming music compo(bp06)?

ich hab auch den ganzen tag nur luft gerarucht.

kb: it says two things, first that everyone considering beeing a jury assumes the outcome will always be criticized anyways so its not worth timewise beeing a jury member yourself, and second that everyone who goes into jury duty prefers beeing flamed for not beeing alternative enough then beeing flamed for not beeing pop enough. either way, as long as funk and german hiphop keep winning german music compos its quite useless to discuss what should be changed in the music jury. i mean, the jury is doing its job properly, its feeding the masses what the masses want. its just a shame that its just so damn fucking boring as hell for most of everyone else who is into discovering new decent music. not to mention totally uninspiring to participate for any musician who aint into crowd pleasing.
and annoying as fuck for any non german speaker.

Alternative music-compo.

This discussion is dated, it has always been impossible to get the preselection for music competitions right.

Playing everything is not possible, preselection will always make some people unhappy, splitting compos up into different styles also doesn't work, so unless somebody comes up with a brilliant idea we'll simply have to live with the fact that music compos will never be fair.

The best solution I've heard about btw is too set the music compo deadline before the party and to make all entries available on the network and hold a pre-election. On the party itself only the best music is played and another voting round decides the final winner... However, this spoils a lot of the fun and kills on-party productions...

Why not have vocal presentation of the audiocompos and play them between visual compos? Thats also a good reason to get away from the "annoying" stereos since it wouldnt be allowed to play anything during audioreplays.

It would also mean that more people could be able to vote and listen to musiccompos since most people do not wish to sit infront of the bigscreen for an hour *only* listening.

bad idea. audio influences our emotional reception of visuals. See a cool photo and listen to a crap tune, and the photo will get less good votes aso., you get the point.

every compo should have prods shown that vary from 'weird' to 'mainstream' but are all very excellent in their very own way.

for too many parties now it has been that every year/party/you-name-it has sort of 'trend' that every prod should fit in somehow. if not, then it doesn't get to big screen.

big thumb up for nosfe who has stayed true to his style all these years, despite not getting the recognition for his works in the 'usual way' (that is, winning compos at big parties and so on)

open your eyes. beauty lies in many forms.

someone got that wrong. i didn't say that nosfes entry got disqualified because we had to fit the compo in 1 hour; i was talking about the entry by "!=". i don't know whether that was disqualified to make the compo fit into 1 hour, but i presume it was. i also don't know why nosfes entry got disq'd, and i agree that showing a 11 second entry shouldn't have been a problem.

i'll talk with mbb about this. anyway, my apologies to nosfe.

The real problem is that making a contest out of art sucks.

mates.. my streaming music entry got disqalified too.. but you know what? i'm NOT pissed off..
i would be pissed of if the orgs released it as "disqualified".. now i just can use it in a demo or some other compo..

my 2 cents
