ms-dos screenshots

There is some switch/command line, where you can put your own key. But as I remember, the default key compination is F12. And then, the screens are saved in it's own special format VTF, which you can convert to bmp with another programm in there (View386 or Vtfview. E.g. View386 0000.vtf). When it views the image, then by pressing the key b, it saves them in a bmp format..

Does some make MS-DOS prods still?

Neither irfanview, nor hypersnapDX worked for me. The problem: I can easilly grab shots in windows or demos shots when they are running in windowed mode, but it doesn't worked when they get fullscreen and take full control of windows. I have only not tried Paintshop pro, but I will too. I think Photoshop or Corel Draw had a screengrabbing option too. Still, I doubt if they will work. They are only working under windows and not in an application that takes full control of graphics. I think..

Try SnagIt.

Hypersnap should have an option somewhere which lets you grab fullscreen DirectX/OpenGL apps. Fiddle around a bit.

OK, VideoThief has been good at snagging shots from these old prods, but I have encountered one problem.

Sometimes the demo runs and VTF captures a shot, but I still can't convert it into a bitmap because vtfview claims my card doesn't support the appropriate vesa mode. I don't really need to display the screen shot, just convert it from this funky VTF format. Any suggestions?

Optimus: try disabling all HW acceleration on your display, then run the fullscreen demo and try Alt+PrintScreen to grab a screenshot. That worked with a demo where I couldn't grab the fullscreen the other day.

I tried SnagIt and it couldn't make sense of these funky VGA modes either.
