How to find all demos which have been ripped to video?

category: general [glöplog]
Can we request stuff too? If so this is a favourite of mine that doesn't work anymore and a video version would be cool.

I'll see what I can do about it...

tomaes: Fiddled around with the EXE and patched it. Runs really bad (320x200 area in 640x480 window, screen not cleared properly), but I managed to do a video. Will upload it tonight.

Cool. I found out that there is a video on youtube, but it looks pretty bad. I thought about patching it myself (best case scenario: kill the res/bpp checker and hope your display driver is doing the rest), but I figured the easy way out would be to set up virtual box and take it from there. So you just changed the width/height values for the ddraw create window call?
added on the 2010-08-11 17:39:14 by tomaes tomaes
More or less. The check works differently. It checks if DirectDraw initialisation and mode switching to 320x240 worked and exits if not.
BB Image
The effects are still rendered in 320x200, but the window now has 640x480 pixel. I didn't find space to patch the StretchDIBBit part (four places) to stretch it to the whole window. I also didn't find out where it wipes the screen, and was confused by about 3 different width/height pairs that seemed to serve different purposes. Drawing goes all over the place. Additionally it crashed when it called to BASS in the debugger...
Would have loved to make a proper EXE, but I'm not keen on digging in it any further...

Nice. I guess I could find the e-mail of the coder to ask for the source, but I guess we both don't have the time to do a proper fix, especially if the code is as messy as it seems. :)

Honestly, no. I still have Heaven7 HD on my list, which is a big enough of a task. I hope I'll get it done this autum/winter when I'm inside more :)
Btw.
NEW: tb2 - mush ca - A y2k glitch demo with nice music.

If anyone would like their demo converted to 1080p HD, I can do that.

He disassembles the whole code, and then he makes magic, and presto!

trixter sorry for the late response, I'm fully retired from Sony Studios and I have some pretty decent equipment, A triple quad core I-7 cpu with 24 gigs of ram, I'm mainly trying to preserve the life of all the older Demos as far back as 2000 possibly 1999 but that's as far back as my widows 7 will do. After I capture the demo it will be about 3.71 GB then when it's converted to HD it will be around 270 - 300 MB

The new DOSBox 0.74 seems to work quite ok on some DOS classics now. I might do some on the next days... 'Acme - Bugfixed' is in the pipeline.

DOSBox 0.74, free time and bad weather make it possible:

NEW: Acme - Bugfixed - '94 DOS classic that has been on my list for a long time.
NEW: Cascada - Holistic - Lots of textured 3D stuff in this '94 demo.

Those demos are missing from YT as HD videos (720p). I tried kkapture, but when run with it they produce crashes or freeze. Maybe someone can help?

BTW they must be uploaded as 720p, even if the source has not that resolution, because YT only provides HQ sound with 720p and above. 480p has now low sound quality.
