Various hollowman demos (hello:friend, loaded, pretending to see the light, et al), the wild bunch, throckmorton device, deus ex machina.

one million lightyears from earth by you-probably-know-who

Hard to pick one but borderline/triad is probably my current favourite, but a quoi ca sert/wrath designs, Trans*Form by Focus,HungerPartOne/Extend and Timewaster/ Focus all pop up in my head at once. And the already mentioned throckmorton device.
+H2K/ Plush isnt as perfect in style as the previously mentioned, but felt really fresh when it was released, and still is.
Best design is atleast to me a pretty vague defintion, and could for me fit an old compunet demo like XESS 1 - Rendezvous/XESS, the king fisher style like refugee/triad or good old norwegian psych like Parapsykolog/Panoramic Designs

Trans*Form, hands down.

The old panoramic deisngs demos were also pretty nice. But they only did good screen design, there rarely were good transitions.

there are many obvious names that come to mind, which makes me happy. horizon, triad, rawhead, booze, crest , fairlight, megastlye , scoop , paradize's wet dreams 2, loads more (sorry for not mentioning more, thats just of the top of my head)... i do like when demos have a theme running thru out them

I do like the wlid bunch demo, but so many groups i could bore ya with.lol

i will always remember, and the mdg (madonna design group?) demo.. for the danko tune and the fridge dropping on the guy

sometimes its not even if they are multi parts, just have a certain something that makes em stand out, when its not even about technical sides like amazing coding effects.
I really think that the recent Sharp by ITC and FLT needs mentioning here. Not one bad screen designwise.

And then there is The Wild Bunch ofcoz.

is it correct for that sharp demo to end (endlessly) with the face of the guy + spirals in the eyes ot iy just hanged?

@chriz74: yes, that is the end of the demo.

Not sure, depends on what design means. I'd choose Cycle concerning one meaning of design, perfect music, gfx, work. If design is the fast sync/good flow/connectivity then I remember Insomnia. And if it is about concept/message definitelly Hollowman's demos and few conceptual demos from Triad too and maybe some other too. Oh, and also Timewaster.

No, desert dream has an average of 0.91, which is worster than 1.

Also the desert dream remake is complety unimaginary and should never be the best c64 demo.

oh dear.. I was sorting by number of votes.

btw .. you think you are so smart but sorting by average pops up a lot of demos which are at 1 and are then sorted by number of positive votes...
