raver: As I said, ASCII art has existed for decades before the demoscene, so it's quite lame that demoscene tries (and fails) to define it.

diamondie: yea, i didnt deny that but who gives a fuck? THIS is the scene and thats how we call it. and somehow i cant really get where does it fail..?

TDR makes heavy use of Helvetica Black (-15 space inbetween) and plain colours. I don't think someone could reproduce that as ascii. ~_+

hello diamondie, please don't talk shit :) .. remember that there is an artscene (ansi, ascii, hirez), and the ascii-part of that scene is a scene where most artists use high ascii characters (either pc- or amiga-characters), and this is the "standard" that most groups use. the point is not to just create art that's viewable on 239487 platforms, but to create (as the name of the scene might imply) ART, and just using regular characters (<127 that is) looks quite gay.

i only know of one ascii artist that does it WELL, and he's axb/remorse (well, he was in remorse last time i checked:) ..

anyway, REMORSE 1981 RULEZ :)

and SAC IS GAY!
rm, nice seeing you defending the good artform, but some arguments suck. i mean, all real amiga ascii art is mostly using lo-chars, but it's all other than gay.

and btw, what the fuck... remorse... i mean, they were good in $-style, but they had NO good amiga artists except volatile and whodini. remorse had always a bad name when it came to amiga ascii, or as you pc guys use to call it "oldschool ascii".

and what's about SAC ? at the moment SAC has some of the best amiga artists collected in one group, including the likes of crusader and 2fast, not to forget myself. so when it comes to pc groups that try to create amiga ascii, no group can mess with SAC at the moment. all other PC groups trying to compete amiga-style-wise, fail miserably !

diamondie, you're talking about things you know shit about. accept it. you are around since perhaps 2 years, so you know a shit of the history of ascii art in scene.

first of all, ascii has nothing to do with DEMOscene alone. ascii art as we know it has its descent from the early wares scene, bbs things (i bet you dont even saw a real bbs from the inside). we ascii artists are not DEMOsceners, at least not in our function as ascii artists. we serve different scenes, amongst those the demoscene (though most requests come from the wares scene still). you can't assign ascii art to demo scene, and you can't blame the demoscene for nothing in this one.

second thing, i suggest you to watch some decent artpacks and collies, and you'll see that non-scene "ascii art" SUCKS DICK!!! only people of the comupter scene (wares scene, demo scene, you name it) brought the use of ascii codes to an artistic level, while you can compare non-scene ascii art only to naivist painting. i mean, what kind of freaking goal those people have whose aim is just to depict some animals/nudechicks/whatever in ascii chars ? "wooohow, i just draw a nude chick in ascii chars, i am sooo cool"... what the heck ? that's primitive. only the computer scene, rooted in bbs trading in the early 90s, brought sense into the usage of ascii characters.

and just to mention it, i still believe in you as an extraordinary nice person, as many hours of irc'ing have shown. but i just advice you, dont mess with things you don't know about ! when you're moving in scene, you have to face that we don't respect that stuff you call "ascii art". scene has set their definitions for ascii art over a decade ago, and you aren't the one to change it.

actually dipswitch, i draw amiga ascii as well :) and many amiga artists use amiga chars as well (i mainly use only one but still :)

and yeah, remorse is quite crap these days, i just wanted to show my incredibly funny sense of humor, and i apparently failed..

and don't be so damn offended by my comments about sac. in my opinion, sac is a fucking terrible group, but that doesn't mean that it can't have good artists. personally, i've never really liked 2fast's style (for example) but that's besides the point. sac also has too many fucking terrible artists, and YOU KNOW IT. :) but oh well, as ferrex would say "it's all about friendship yadayada". BULLSHIT, quality control or die !@$#$^$%&%^(* :)

(i think this is getting out of hand)

i think, there's pretty much quality control in SAC in comparsion to remorse...:P but we're slowly getting off-topic. #ascii ircnet is a better place for such discussion.

You folks should learn the differences between character sets :) There's no such thing as "high ascii", some ignorant MS-DOS users just use that term to describe their own funny extended characters. All other operating systems screw them up by default, so it really isn't very good idea to throw them into infofiles anymore :)
