True - although Vicious Delicious isnt really psytrance anymore, most of it is psychedelic progressive... "something".

so you mean that sometimes demoscene music is just "demoscene music" without actually trying to aim to be "drum and bass" or "trance" or whatever, and it just happens to wander around genres?

I'd say this is true 90% of the time.
It probably wouldn't work in the "real" world.
Which is why I love demoscene music.
I want to play, explore, work in different ways and generally give a fuck about concerning whether or not my music belongs to a certain genre.
"In-a-box" music styles can suck my lollipop. Hard.
I see music styles as two things:

1. a study in repeating a hit track again and again by making slight variations on its theme.

2. a marketing tool that is used to segment the market in different parts. It provides a distinct advantage of separating your audience from other audiences (they put up with more crap than they would otherwise) while also serving as a good brand for one's music. A marker so to speak, which helps consumers memorize and associate this music with virtues / places / times.

Seriously, this is an interesting thread.
I was always confused by various music kinds.
And when they asked me what kind of music is that I couldn't answer properly (And even was feeling bad about it :P)

I personally like demoscene music that is such a twisted mix of music kinds. And I also love that there is some melody and stuff.

Also, nicely said in the beginning thread, somethings someone must be in the right mood to understand. For example with demos, when I downloaded several releases in the past, I was hungry for codepr0n, so when a demo was minimalistic or even noise, I was dissapointed and pressed escape. But later I've found out that when I am in the right mood for something else than codepr0n, especially I want exactly minimalistic or noise demos and stay there and observe while getting sleepy, is teh shit for the case!!! So, you don't try this and expect something else..

Maybe I'd try this while on drugs too oneday :)

@Lando Calrissian: pop.. hmmm.. yeah..

Lando: Then you haven't listened to it, because it is not pop at all. Listen to the whole album, from start to finish. It is friggin' brilliant.

still in progress :) Well, it has some pretty nice tracks. But I am not that fond of the vocal stuff.

Also, if you'd be into psy-something but not trance or goa, you might wanna check out some psydub and other psychedelic downtempo stuff like Shpongle, Ott, Hallucinogen in dub (Ott's remixes), Entheogenic and maybe Youger Brother too (some of it is more uptempo though, aswell as shpongle). IMO those are all damn excellent.

I second rainmaker, and would also add the follow dub-artists to the list:
10 ft. Ganja Plant, Rhythm & Sound and Easy Star All-Stars. It's not psy, but it's what inspired a lot of the psy-guys in the first place.

I second lug00ber, and would also add the follow dub-artists to the list:
iration steppas, alpha & omega, the disciples, jah warrior, brain damage, sir larsie i.
and of course a whole truckload of jamaican 1970s producers, but that would let the list explode.

I learned not to talk about psy-whatever with rainmaker around.
