I'll thumb up whatever the hell I want. My thumb up criteria are completely subjective and probably change minute to minute. I don't care. Stop telling me what to do.

i dont understand why you care that much, ps

Jesus Christ, we're not handing out gold medals, we're handing out small pixelated cartoon hands with a thumb sticking out. What is the big deal about thumbing up something because it's a nice start from people living in a land more or less barren from any demoscene?

You people sure are bitter.

I wouldn't say I'm bitter about people handing out thumbs, if they feel a production deserves it rightfully.

However, I DO become bitter when people accuse me of being bitter (pun intended) because I don't hand out "thumb ups" to every half-respectable production!
It's IMPORTANT!

LIFES DEPEND ON IT!

THE THUMBS!

Nice way to shoot down an attempt at a serious conversation.
This conversation went downhill since post one. What is there to converse about handing out opinion-based ratings to home-made productions? Sweet lord, it's not like it matters.

I second everyone. If you start "requesting" that people vote in a specific manner, you fail. That being said, a comment like "[|||]", <thumb down> does look more like trolling than a proper vote to me. But I'm sure even the Chinese have heard of the intarweb by now, and the sort of mixed feedback you have to expect when you do anything at all.

I try to at least say something half-decent when commenting, whether or not I tumb it up, down or give it a pigface. Like: "Graphics were no good, but the music was okay" or "The music SUCKS ASS, but some decent code" etc.

Speaking of which; I would like to be able to thumb BBS threads. ;)

"something half-decent" might perhaps be abit of an overstatement coming from you imo..

why does everyone praise "the engine" like it's the best thing since sliced bread? I saw _nothing_ in this demo that was new (or goodlooking, for that matter), and i sure as hell saw nothing that gave it a good reason for running at 5 fps on a 2.3 ghz core2duo with 2 gb ram and a 8800 gts.

either the code was complete crap or you have severe driver issues.

the music was awful btw. sounded like the tutorial files that come with sony acid.

okkie et al are right, i shouldnt even have opened this thread to begin with. pouet has always been taking this whole voting thing too seriously..

am going back to ignoring it, sorry for the annoyance everyone. :)

If I could, i'd rip all of your thumbs off.

And burry them in the woods.

I said "I atleast try to say something half-decent", and if you are going to pull random comments out of context, at least have the decency to add my other comment to the same prod as well:

Guys - don't take it to mean that you suck, because you don't. It's just that after all the hugely positive comments I was expecting something a lot more polished (and you _do_ have driver issues :). If you want a soundtrack for your next demo, just let me know, okay?

..but I guess that wouldn't have made the same kind of point for you. MY point was that when I vote I usually have something to say, instead of just "whatever" and a thumb down. I didn't think that would be so hard to grasp.

Gloom: "out of context" is a evil concept, yeah? It's obviously an accepted technique used eveywhere. Ah, well, yes, I have SOME experience in that area (from both sides) - being a victim to it is a shame, but fighting it can seem pointless - I'm not saying it IS pointless, but just warning you to go there, as you might not get what you came for.... and now I've written something totally useless for no reason at all....but I've written it and put some effort into it, so I'll be DAMNED if I won't post it! So...HERE! ;)
I guess I just half-trolled the thread there - so you may ban me now.
nutman: I have absolutely no idea what you are rambling on about. :)

gloom: you atleast had the decency to go back and recognize your blunt idiocy to the point of correcting yourself. i commend you for that. shame it doesnt seem to have ever been the first instinct feedback though. especially coming from someone who does pr and scene outreach it looks quite unfriendly and unwelcoming to new/returned sceners. imho. thats what fueled my urge to comment "out of context".
added on the 2007-11-17 05:59:05 by psenough psenough
ps: So, since I chose to work on demoscene outreach I'm no longer allowed to act as an individual demoscener? I'm supposed to go around, sugarcoating everything ("I do say Sir, jolly good demomaking!") or just abstaining from having any opinion at all, since it might offend someone with my personal comments?

I'm sorry, but that's just plain stupid.

Sure, there is a need for a level of seriousness when I work with companies, film festivals and other organizations on demoscene outreach, but I'm not signing away my right to be a demoscener in the process -- because what's the point then?! Besides; this is exactly why I try not to talk about Pouet when I do that stuff, because I don't want those people to see the shit that surface here.
