dual core and jerky frame rates?

category: general [glöplog]

Watching some ~5 years old demos I noticed a few of them had a lot of jitter in their frame rate.

That jitter would disappear if I alt-tab away, and use the task manager to set the process' affinity to one single core/cpu.

Is that related to RDTSC-based timing? Is there a way to launch a processus with a pre-set affinity?

If you have an AMD chip you might want to try running the dual core fix, winlauncher should be able to pre set the afinity if the fix doesnt work

Ignoring morons who always have to post about their opinions, if you, like me, have a dual-core AMD chip, you can search for their "Dual-Core Optimizer" .. smooth download and installation, and fixes the jerky misbehaviour.
