i really like this what people would call "dub" it's really mystical spacy music if it's made well for example basic channel/rhythm&sound/deepchord/echospace. all basic channel releases (not netlabel stuff) sounds imo very futuristic, almost like floating space and colliding asteroid field.

Anyway, the only slightly electrofunky label I knew about was the bmp subgroup and rohformat relative module label called "setup":

That was back then, when I still followed the music scene.

enrmp003_argon_-_old_contrasts - techno/house stuff

i'm seriously wondering what "/house" is doing in that description, but yeah, cool tracks! leeching the others now.

btw, knos, i beg to differ about the genre thing. agreed, trying to make up a genre for anything is stupid, and trying to squeeze a track into a certain term is silly, too. however, i don't always want to do the open minded "wow, that artist has a funky name, lets see what it sounds like" thing - very often, i just want to download some tracks that match the mood i'm in at that point. words like "house", "trance", "dnb" and "techno" make that easier for me. granted, i never really get what i expect (f.ex. ps' calling those (in my eyes) aggressive techno tracks by argos "house"), but i surely don't get jazz when i was hoping for disco. as such, i kind of dislike the de-emphasis on genres at many netlabels. open minds are nice, but there's just too much cool stuff out there to check and judge all of it.

hence the thread.

ps, thanks for the huge list of labels. i'll be checking those out while i'm postponing getting to work.

ah damn, ps you were right! the fourth track *is* housy :-D

hi! how come nobody pointed me at (po-)RNO Records yet?? tft, i blame you personally!

for instance, i recommend everybody to check out xni's track in release 101, which is fucking awesome!

i knew the demogroup, i never knew they also did separate music releases. too bad that most tunes are singles though, and/or that there's no trendy preview facility. but still it's pretty cool stuff.
