Where the devil is the Ass embly 2008 thread?

tFt: I agree that it's a __bit__ disappointing with only 6 entries. But I guess that's what NVisionitis does :)

And,..

People will bitch and moan even more in case nvscene does not deliver the expected awesomeness. :)

its not so motivating to make entries for a party knowing that you won't most likely be able to get inside during the compos even if the entry would be shown. :)

Is it that busy with other people? Or how does that work? I picked up the rumour that quite some people came to Helsinki but didn't buy tickets for Assembly. They would just hang out at Boozembly and check the compos on tv or something.

How was Boozembly this year, btw? I heard some rumours that the security was really nasty this year, but I didn't spend much time at all at the partyplace so I don't know.

boozembly was good as usual. i heard some people didnt get in, myself i didnt even bother to try this year, the walk from the bzm area was too long to just "try if i can get in".
and yeah, the number of people who only come to boozembly seems to be increasing.

I kinda echo Gargaj's sentiments in the demo compostudio - sure, there weren't all that many entries, but they were all above average. Usually we see a lot of stuff that's just "oh please, just make this end NOW, please the horror!" but almost all the demos this year were either "Oh, good" or "Decent effort, better luck next year". :) Also, NVScene does have a 4k compo as well, and 11 entries in the 4k compo at ASM was _very respectable_ - maybe 4k is indeed the new wine? ..and don't forget Evoke in 4 days.

Thanks and cheers to all my fellow drunkards at Boozembly including Caveman, Gasman, Lord Funk, Nosfe, Truck, p01, Jugi, Smash, Reed, and all those I didn't catch the names of. \o/
I remember that I fell 2 times on the rocks of boozembly and once during the walkaround after they closed the gate on Friday, so I'm pretty bruised after this party :-)

Elsewhere: if anything, security has become more relaxed every year. Though I did hear that more than the usual number of people tried to get in with booze.

Six demos was less than anybody was expecting, but then again the 64k was outstanding and 4k was very good. Last year 64k was bollocks and 4k was really good too. It's almost predictable enough to bet on (great compo last year --> average compo this year). NVScene most likely contributed to that effect.

It was very nice talking to many folks like Smash and Gargaj who felt that in many ways this was the best ASM they've been to. The improvements made to the sound system and the big screen made a huge difference in all compos.

I sure hope we'll see those "missing" demos at NVScene, so go make'em! =)

abyss: what is stupid is we were keeping the booze in a friend's car so that we can actually take it to the boozembly, and dear security got it confiscated saying that the car park is in the permises of hartwall areena.

i can understand that, but they should know that we sceners do drink when together and for no obvious reason they just confiscated everything you tried to take OUTSIDE the areena to boozembly using the bridge. in other words, this is intentional blocking of a scene congregation and i seriously think those who ordered this to happen have no right to do so. of course it was an obvious violation of rules when we took a few sips (and i'm being honest, not any more than a few sips) inside the car at the car lot, in that case the confiscation was totally the right thing. though, would asm organizing be please kind enough next year to allow a scener congregation which is completely righteous and legal to happen by allowing alcohol traffic using the bridge to messukeskus? and i don't think there's anything wrong with carrying alcohol within your car or the public open air places of areena (such as the path between the car lot and the bridge) as long as you don't publicly and intentionally display it or consume it within the permises. in the end, my car is my privacy.

The car park is in part of the premises, and we need to patrol it to follow the regulations. Drinking alcohol in the premises is forbidden (even if you do it within your car) and we have no chance but to react or there would be consequences for us.

The right way to do it is to drive next to Boozembly, drop your friends and the alcohol off, and then come and park at the garage.

Our security consists of trained professionals, who follow the law and the regulations. If they wouldn't be at their right and obligation to react, they wouldn't. You know, my signature is on the legal paper the police is reading if something happens, so I'd rather follow the regulations.

Decipher: Not all party-arrangers give you tips on how to keep drinking in relation to a non-alcoholic event, so how about you take the advice and enjoy Assembly/Boozembly experience? :)

I enjoyed boozembly and assembly a lot! My only complain is that when I went to sleep on some benches in the lower part of the arena I got a really loud wake up call from few security dudes. I don't see what was the problem why I wouldn't be allowed to sleep there

First asm for me, but it was awesome :)

Boozembly was real fun indeed, and the new place turned out great! Except for people with disabilities or serious attitude problems rendering them unable to walk for more than 50 meters. Sucks to be them.

As for the security, I personally didn't notice anything particularly nasty. They didn't let me in on saturday night to watch the compos, which pissed me off at the time. But to be honest I _was_ quite drunk, and those are the chances one takes when attending both ASM and BZM. To the security's credit, they were real civilized about it: saying "how about trying again later" instead of playing tough, taking my bracelet away etc. So no hard feelings on my part :)

Btw, there was a perfectly fine car park right next to the BZM area where the arena security had no authority to mess with you.

Assembly itself was fun as well. IMHO people are way too upset over a lackluster demo compo, it has happened before and next year may again turn the tables. Plenty of good releases still, even the music compo wasn't too painful this year. Shame about the Amiga sound screwup in the oldskool demo compo, but stuff happens.

what the argument against having drunk people in the hall, btw? (just wondering - it seems they're quite on top of what they're doing). i understand about "piss wasted, can't walk, will pull an arcane if let inside" situations - but if you drank a few beers (and then some) but obviously harmless and not carrying any booze, what's the problem?

not that i ever was at asm - i'm really just wondering.

i lashed out at some security dudes who didn't let anyone sleep like, anywhere (they blamed both the organizers and the visitors themselves, nice going), but i was pretty tired and moderately drunk. :) other than that, i didn't really have any problem with assembly or boozembly.
Yeah, from what I heard, sleeping at the arena still really sucks because there just is no space for everyone and security keeps kicking you awake if you sleep in the wrong place. So how about more sleeping places next year? I slept at home this time though, so can't really complain. I even got inside to watch the compos (although to be honest, the quality wasn't that good that it really mattered anyway) and no one even confiscated my booze that I left in the car in the arena parking hall :)

Actually I had more fun at ASM this time that I've had in a few previous years, even though I spent most of my time at BZM. The security indeed seems more relaxed nowadays, which is nice.

I found this year's Assembly the worst demoparty I've ever been to. And it really seemed to me like many people never went inside, because I've never seen so few people (especially sceners) I know at the party place. Which is quite understandable, because I almost wish I had stayed home.

The security seemed quite relaxed this year, a few times they din't inspect my bags at all and other times the inspection was so lousy I could have practically taken anything with me without them noticing. And they did let some people inside even though those folks were so drunk they couldn't really speak at all.

DiamonDie: exactly which parties are you comparing this to ie. which parties have you visited? (calling this asm the worst ever doesn't really give anybody any clue unless we know a abit about your party experience)

i enjoyed this more than most assemblies ive been to in the past few years. big screen and sound system was great, the scene booth provided a good place to hang out, and there was plenty of people at the rocks each night (and not getting moved on by the police this year), and plenty of cool people around.
most of all though i guess it was because i actually had some time to hang out with people, booze and go downtown - unlike the previous few years.

Unfortunately I wasn't able to be at ASM this year, but from what I've heard from my friends who were there, it was pretty goodamn cool. :)
