jar: excellent, will you have it done for breakpoint? :D

This is exactly what I was thinking :)
My point basically was: You either do stuff or you don't. If you want some kind of stuff to be done, instead of complaining about the scene being dead, you should do it yourself. Whether's it's an epic 15-minute trip to white noise or trance and metaballs doesn't really matter, each to his or her own.

no I won't have it done for breakpoint. But I keep trying to improve my skills to be able to do great stuff - and btw, I brought a demo to NVScene which made 8th place. Yes it's much too long and yes it has trance and metaballs - But I delivered. And certainly I keep on improving.

See you on the bigscreen - it's called compo for a reason..

navis: HP tried to repair a buzzing sound coming from my laptop 4 times now and still failed :P
laptops in general suck. the outer casing of my macbook is falling apart.

AFTER 5 MONTHS OF USE. worst product ever. (it's the second macbook that's giving me problems, allthough this one *does* boot, which is a pro for any apple product out there)

I don't use dx and don't really like it's use because of platform dependence, but without having any insight or clue (and you can judge my comment on those facts if you want) all I have to say is : go with the newest, most stable possible.

niels: That's funny, because I have had that exact same experience with machines from Dell, HP, Fujitsu-Siemens and Lenovo.. but not with any Macs. Strange how the world operates.

Don't turn this discussion into a "ZOMG MAX RULZ"-thread, gloom.

i'm far from impressed by gloom's faux-cockyness, so don't worry :)

niels: What do you mean by "faux"? ;) Anyway: I find it valid to mention that the Macs I have had have all had _excellent_ build quality, while virtually all my other machines from other vendors have been plastic-fantastic shite that break if you look at them sideways.

Do you guys like Oasis or Blur?

Furthermore you can make cool slideshows on Macs.
Well, you kinda need to, in order to impress your boss so that he feels all that extra cash in the IT-budget was worth it.

gloom: i hate other hardware equally much :)

oh well, the thing is in repair now. it's weird. you go to their servicedesk they refuse to replace a certain part that is obviously broken beyond my own doing. then they give you a number. you spend 30 minutes on the phone with 2 different people (which is supposed to cost 50 euros after 3 months but they didnt charge me anything after all), they attach some kudos to your product s/n and *then* it's all good. not very efficient, but at least they made the effort for just broken plastic. wonder if other vendors go that length.

ok, now on to this so very interesting dx10 topic.

i think dx10 will be adapted to as soon as Frontend will support it!
*COUGH*

adopted?
gloom: i've seen a lot of fucked white macbooks around here (both damaged cases and faulty boards, the board faults are mostly caused by the board bending inside the case), so I guess they're actually badly built as well as underpowered. Seems they've fixed both problems with the new ones at least.

Dell + HP are both pretty decently built (at least the business ones, i get to play around with tons of them at work). Well, we did have a low-end dell once which visibly bent if you held it by one end.

Guardian: it would definitely explain a few things if they were ;D

Not very on topic but I don't like opening threads...

Is it save to use multiple render targets (MRTs)? I have no clue how well this is supported currently.
by most slightly modern hardware it is (nv47 chip (7000 series i believe) has it for example) so if you just check beforehand, i dont think many will be left out :)

perhaps someone with a more extensive gpu factbook in his head has the cutoff point.

smash told me "it's standard (you ignorant fool)", so I am happily using up to four RTs now.

Nice :) Thank you both.
Rob : you can safely use it, even ATI cards support it well ;)

neils: in a macbook? the latest ones have gf9400 which is reasonable enough, but the older (plastic) ones had the horrible intel GMA chips.

The pro ones have nvidia chips, maybe it's one of them? I'd be surprised if one of those was falling apart, but there's always the odd dodgy one. My old g4 powerbook is the same design and that's still pretty solid after 4 years of heavy use :)

Vista suxx (partly using it at work, so I know what I´m talking about), and thus my pivate machines will keep 2k / XP for quite some time.

If you want to use new technology not available in DX9 maybe consider OGL instead.

BTW: Video´d "demos" suck, too - if you want to use DX10, then label it a "wild" release and people will be happy ;)

psonice: i don't see what you're getting at. my macbook beef is about the cheap plastic on the white models with an intel gma x3100 but the gpu is not related to the casing falling apart.

the gpu talk is something else. my g4 ibook took longer to disintegrate than 2 white macbooks combined now.

and ts, why the hell would you go code a dx10 demo (which is anyone's good right and not any less valid a performance than any other demo) and release it in a wild compo? what's the fucking value of that?

just supply a good 1080p or at least 720p hiqual grab. as said before.
