Or maybe people should just do better demos on those "low-end" machines? =)

Why? All you need is the right connections to the Nordic Scene Conspiracy.
Who decides the nominees for each category anyway? The people?? Hardly.

Looking at this years nominees, as far as I care (not very much), it does not matter where this travesty takes place. I'm not falling for it.

The awards team. And if you feel that the result of this process is shit or something, why don't you change something about it and join the awards team next time?

Meh, this was a pretty *yaaawn* year nomination-wise...

Although this years scene.org awards are far from over, I'd like to say to everybody involved: good job, and thanks for bothering!

Saga Musix, you are right of course. I hope no one is personally offended when I offer my (own) opinion.

From Wikipedia I gather:
Quote:
The winners (except for the Public Choice category) are selected by a jury, consisting of acclaimed sceners from all around the globe.

scene.org says,
Quote:
The Scene.org awards are decided by a small, experienced jury who vote for the nominated demos.

Straight from the 2011 awards website:
Quote:
WHO MAKES ALL THIS HAPPEN?
The Scene.org Awards is organized by the members of the International Scene Organization ry with help of various individuals interested in the demoscene. The Scene.org Awards team for 2011 follows:

Jury members for the 9th Annual Scene.org Awards are:

I'm sure it's just a glitch in my browser. :-) Actually, nevermind!

May I bring to your attention the fact that in the public "choice" section we see one entry from C64, Atari (!) and Amiga each? Ever heard of Amiga? So there is a small but significant difference to, for instance, the demo section, which is Windows only, courtesy of the "Wise Men." No complaints, just facts.

Yeah, it's nice at least that in this public choice awards we see at least two or three demos that are not the major stuff selected in the most common categories. It always pisses me off when people choose the very best demos in public awards that will make it several times in the main categories anyway, instead of selecting something less obvious that's worth it. But yeah, I should stop complaining and make a demo about it :)

pcp: well, there's no accounting for fanboys on public choice :)

I appreciate your modesty, britelite, but don't overdo it. :) But I concur, not THAT many good Amiga-demos this year, at least on OCS.

What about the other platforms? No worthy demos? I, the ignorant fuck, am Amiga only, so I ask you... cheers!

Who am I to complain, so let's get this over with ;b

smash: I think this year it's extra obvious that every juror vote for their all-round favorite production no matter what category they vote for. But hey, I've always complained about the scene.org award nominations.

2010 was a bad year production-wise, sure. But 2010 has been over for a while, my comment was about the awards.

i've heard The Gathering hired Frank Caliendo to imitate all winners during the ceremony! His Smash is particularly charming!

the point is that we probably need an extrar nomination as there are existing platforms with a lot of restrictions but not oldskool ones.

As I recall, the oldskool category was officially named "Best demo on an oldskool / alternative platform" for a while, which conveniently meant that they could include Craft by lft in there. Looks like they changed it back to make it fit on the web design or the plaques or something, but I'm sure they'll be able to quietly change it again if a suitably good non-oldskool alternative demo comes along...

There is no such things called "Demoscene Awards", "Demoparties", "Years" or "Nominations". All these fancy terms refers to imaginary (and false) concepts.

The real substance of the world consist of intros and demos. Go and make something about it.
