seems like you have improved your blur-routine, uncle-x. nice. too centered overlays, but the music and visuals was nice. Not as boring as part1, but not really too etertaining either.

Nasa textures in a otherwise pretty uneventful and boring till the end production

The most tedious and banal demo I think I've ever seen!

The music was great, but I think I'd sooner stare at my Winamp equalizer than watch this demo again.

No real effect, but stunning ...MFX knows how to setup the atmosphere ... Usual High Class quality standard ...
The visuals almost looked like a documentary, the 'series' is shaping good ! :)

It's a very atmospheric piece, just not suitable for all.

Though I still wish Unclex would have done something about the planet's coarse look ;)

Better than part 1, more content per megabyte too.
I only wish you'd have done something cool like flying through the atmosphere of the planet, or something with its moons, or done something about the fugly 256-color-esque rings and stuff. Seriously, it looked like it was 8 or 16 bit color, and that threw off the coolness factor.

Crusader: I believe a trip into the atmosphere was planned, but abandoned because it looked like ass. And do you have a Radeon by any chance? (not that there's some banding on Nvidia cards, though) :)
added on the 2003-12-31 01:09:52 by Shifter Shifter
Actually it looked about 256 colour on my GeforceTi too, and also quite blocky around the edges.

Also, all I see is a very slow flyby with a few flashes separating the different camera angles.

Geforce 4 Ti 4400 (or was it Go?) in my widescreen laptop.

On second watching, this might be the sort of 'ooh shiny' videos we need at the Villanova astronomy department, to replace all those dumb ones that sound like that audio clip, or that show irrationally happy scientists talking about the really boring aspects...

<insert truck babbling for about 8 hours on various subjects remotely associated with his thoughts on this masterpiece>
As usual, the soudtrack is t0tal 0wnage (oh wait, you call that "pwnage" now I think).

Negative points are "nothing at all happens" and "the planets look far to lowres", but who cares. Headphones on and trip away.

too bad it's boring... but what a great look... mix the 2 parts in a screensaver, i could be great ;)

liked this more than upt1. whereas the first part lacked small details like the overlay layers (scrolling mumbo jumbo, grids etc.) this has also more continuity, with getting a closer look what's inside the universe - i could suspect the 3rd part gets already to the microspace level...

even if the whole demo is kitchy, full of 80's scifi cliches it also succeeds in creating the often missing atmosphere from ambient demos. oh yes, and the music sure rocks.

oh, and what everyone already said - bigger & better textures for the part3, please. :)
rulez added on the 2004-01-03 10:11:47 by melw melw
compared to part 1:
+ better/more colours
+ better music
+ less boring
- much slower: I'm getting something like 1 or 2 fps on my gf2 mx and 1,4 Ghz TB. Ok, ok, gf2 mx is old and slow but why is it this slow? I didnt see anything THAT spectacular, or am I missing somthing?

Ignoring the slowness, I give it a thumb up as it's clearly better than part 1

very nice indeed. Although nothing happens and technically it should bore my pants off, it somehow pulls together well and makes a great chill out piece to watch. Great tune, visuals were good except for the planet looking too low res somehow. Hmm..... maybe if i turn AA on it will look blurred instead of low res? perhaps that was the idea.. but anyway the only flaw.

Looking forwards to pt3 :)

Music is great, but the rest... Why is it so damn slow? And the dark part of the saturn rings are supposed to be completely black, not transparent...
added on the 2004-01-07 09:32:08 by T$ T$
seems the low-res planet is supposed to be a blur effect... turn on anti-aliasing and it looks like a great softfocus effect, turn AA off and it looks shitty filtered low res. But why not just RTT at higher res?

I have confused feelings towards MFX. They're a group whose productions I always look forward to, yet at the same time I find most of their demos to be uneventful viewing.

I suppose it's the conceptual effort they put into their work, as well as the fact they rarely walk the beaten path. For this I have tremendous respect. Yet their style, for the most part, doesn't appeal to me.

This demo is no different. It oozes MFX all over, yet it fails to excite me.
shit.
