Not only a classic but my absolute oldschool favourite on the ST!

this demo made me believe in atari st.

and optimus is of course wrong: i had nothing to do with this.
rulezadded on the 2004-01-10 12:43:01 by chaos chaos
Yeah, rulez of course.

Hey Chaos, I recall you being behind a screen on ST (a rotating starwars scoller I think) which was part of a megademo. What demo was that?

Even as an Atari-loathing Amiga owner, I was highly impressed when I originally saw it.

Is it possible to run under SainT or another emulator btw?
rulezadded on the 2004-01-10 19:34:01 by Wade Wade
the starwars scroller coded by Chaos was in the Just Buggin' demo by ACF.

Overscan, parallax and samples in the same ST screen. One of the standard oeuvres of the ST. A must-see.

That fullscreen-parallax-dist is still one of the technically advanced screen i ever saw on any platform. And it works on any ST!
Utterly Superb! Milestone!

the demo was very nice. (the menu & 1 screens of it) but those guys were so arrogant. From my point of view not so revolutionary because it was nearly all based on hardwarescrolling and ringbuffers, colorcycling. Perhaps that's the reason why amiga freaks were so surprised. :) I think the parallax scroller was based on hardwarescrolling and colorcycling.

Pretty cool screens here. I just don't like the mainmenu that much, even though it's technically brilliant. :)

Can't belive I missed to thumb this one. Were and still is one of my fave megademos on the ST. I just wish they had made a multipart demo before quitting.

Brilliant megademo possibly featuring the best fullscreens ever on ST. A must see.

That link contains some explainations of some of the techniques used here (very interesting read), and also:

Parallax distorter
Cheat code:
push key B
push key U
release key B
push key S
release key U
push key return
release key S
release key return

Now the hardware scroller is disabled, means the screen adress is not changing anymore.
The display area is about 5 screens high.
You can check this by moving around in memory: use the keypad.
scroll up: 8
scroll down: 2
speed up: push gain
stop scrolling: 5
The overscan dist scroller screen is the one everybody recalls. DSOTS has some more nice screens tho. Anyway, this was sick shit when it was released, and it still rocks :)

Spectacular digi-sound music in the menu, screens tend to be impressive yet visually a bit dull.
incredible trick!

This used to be one of my favorite demos... Watched it hundreds of times, especially the fullscreen distorter. Actually I finally understood the trick and used it for the fullscreen diagonal distorter in the Ventura Demo...
