That good old Cubic Player ruled so much!

loved the Cubic Player note dots effect. I wish new mod players had that sort of visualization.

My favourite

i never really liked this one, but atleast it had very good replay.
Ahh, good old Cubic. The player which failed to play even the PC tunes of its time half-decently, let alone old mods which it butchered like a.. well, butcher. The moment an inverse coup de coeur -feature is included on Pouet, this one gets my vote.

haaaa cubic player! \o/

it was one of the best player ever made on PC, with nice layout, tons of great visualisation effects, tons of format replayed (mp3 and SID too!) and the xm replay was really good (the previous comment is... wrong).

in fact the only one player on PC-Dos was Capamod by Capacala but it was underrated because running only with GUS souncards...

it used to play a lot of modules incorrectly, i always prefered mikmod.

The nerd audio media player of the dos era. Fugly, discomforting, buggy, but what the heck, it came with 16bit drivers for my shitty ess (or whatever it was :)). Neat sid player too. And the infamous würfel mode. Obviously, the native windows version never happened, but who cares. Besides mod4win my favourite audio player back then.

How is this a *demotool*?
added on the 2005-01-19 11:28:49 by Shifter Shifter
Why is this in the windows-platform? Look at what Tomaes said.. And yeah, I just tried it on winxp, didn't work (with cphost).

But anyway, brings back some memories.. =)
added on the 2005-01-19 11:50:31 by fox fox
fox, isn't there a windows port of some sort? just as there is a linux port.
bad

demotool?
rulez added on the 2005-01-19 14:34:20 by kaukojouko kaukojouko
why on EARTH was this added here...? and as a demotool...?
added on the 2005-01-19 15:28:43 by kusma kusma
I'm also not 100% happy with the whole "released in 1994" idea. Sure, yeah, they released the rather lacking pre-release test at TP94 (I was sitting two rows behind Cubic team, the memories!), but that was before it went "open", and it has gone through some major versioning/updating since.
added on the 2005-01-19 15:50:37 by Shifter Shifter
I liked it, but why is it here?
added on the 2005-01-19 15:52:23 by Preacher Preacher
it's not a demotool indeed, not sure it actually belongs here (in that case SC68, Deliplayer, SND Player, YMplayer should be added as well, but I really doubt they have their place here)

Just rename the category to 'scene-related software'.

I loved the FFT spectrum analyzer !
A player i used to run alot before Win95 and Modplug.
rulez added on the 2005-01-19 16:54:21 by willbe willbe
it's a demotool because you can download the sources and use the player in your demo.

Just talked about it two days ago ;)
Würfel mode... this one is a classic, though I preferred Mod4Win back then...

Cubic thumb up.
rulez added on the 2005-12-13 18:35:09 by ALiEN^bf ALiEN^bf
this player is wonderful to use and the fact that it played tunes from inside zip files was really great back when hd space was expensive, however because it plays so many tunes so horribly wrong i can't justify giving it a thumb up

Oh yea, this was the winamp of the DOS era for me. Listened to a LOT of mods, xms, s3ms etc with this one, and even mp3s lateron.
rulez added on the 2006-08-13 02:18:52 by Scali Scali
I remember dspainting from inside cubic player's DOS command line. Multitasking without windows :)
rulez added on the 2007-02-04 20:50:28 by _-_-__ _-_-__
i got some good use out of this player before until i finally switched to modplug then xmplay. along with all the neat scopes and analyzers, i really appreciated its intelligent sample downsampler.. especially while i still had a 512k gus! it even supported sid and mp3 later on, making it one of the few dos players for each.

I dont know if this played any format correctly, but nevertheless it was fun to use.

Maraakate: Stay classy (even if it's not meant to be serious, it's still a lame comment).

This one obviously rules.

It is possible to find the version of OPEN CUBIC PLAYER VERSION 2.6.0 "PRE7", I looked for it a lot on the web but I did not find anything, if you look at the screenshot that version comes out, thanks
