A bit boring but the demo includes some nice ideas and good music synchronisation.

omg! this is really good :)
anyway.. i love the syncing and the fx, it feels a bit harder then number 1 but it still rocks, the only thing i can complain about is that the red part gets to red.. otherwise this is a killer demo and i would like to see more of this from you if your brain isnt a mess after this ;)

starts up "nice" and wasn't really going anywhere until the noise part kicks in. and even if i hate the out-of-tunish chippy soundscape in the beginning the song turns out be quite ok in the end as well. did i already say "nice"? well, here's one "nice" more. :)

really cool stuff! the end is a bit of an anti-climax, should have ended a few moments earlier, but apart from that it's a perfect demo. :)
rulez added on the 2005-10-10 09:14:17 by gloom gloom
This demo starts really nice, then gets a little bit boring, but it has a nice turn when it becomes red, and a (at least in my opinion) really wonderfull ending.

Big thumbs up also for that fact that it has a unique touch to it. Yet it has this demoscene-flair in it. Very nice.

It was looking pretty awesome, sounded good, and raised my hopes...then it turned red and ended. :(

Good work, but it needed more variation for my liking.
Awesome Stanley Kubrick mood.

It started with one of the best equalizers I ever saw and turned into a great trip with the speed of light.

Ümlaüt Design on a space odyssey!

A competent demo. Above average, hence the thumb up. I don´t mind there "only" being one scene but the music was a bit of a letdown.

To avoid confusion and misunderstandings:
Everything, every motion and alternation in the demo you see is synced by hand, no frequency data from the music or pattern data and triggers were used at all. (Just like in Structure.)
added on the 2005-10-11 03:20:33 by Gargaj Gargaj
"Equalizer" was meant concerning to visual style, not to technique - cool hand ÜD. :)

My first early 80s equalizer on C64 was "faked" by hand. ;)

Best Umlaut design demo. Their usual repeatitive style, very well put there. Those sounds and light have a certain vibe that makes it cool, then it doesn't stay there and shows off the red atmospheric version of the same scene, it's not boring for a repeatitive demo. Still though, I liked the 2nd place more.

wwwwwell..
i found the syncs at the start a bit obvious and simplistic, the model pretty unoriginal, and you can smell the inspiration a mile off :) but just when i was thinking "competent, very clean, but dull", the red noise comes in and smacks me in the face. great moment, and a fine interpretation of the music there as well.
oh, and it's definately the best tune i heard from gargaj =)

(btw, if this had been a 64k it would have been killer)

Neat. I like how it started static, started moving, and adding stuff. All those lights remind me of Tron movie and games. I didn't like the red scene. I guess it is understandable for the music part. I do like the ending with the TV static!

The music is cool, I cannot take it out of my mind ;) The idea for the visuals is nice as well, however, it really needs more camera action, and more motion work.. at some points of the demo you think.. booooring, change the camera please... So, yeah, The idea is cool, i think it just needs a little bit more of camera work and also a better texture for the tube to become a legend ;)

Nice concept and nice music.
But I would have enjoyed it more with more scenes. But I guess there was no time for?!
rulez added on the 2005-10-29 21:29:42 by Skyrunner Skyrunner
Jeenio: I like to maintain control over the synchronization, so if I would just wire stuff to pattern data or FFT, I might have unpredictable results like motions I don't like but can't change. This way it's thousand times the work, but everything becomes the way I intended it to be.

Skyrunner: No, altho we DID ran out of time a bit (orga duties + demomaking = bad bad bad), there was no question about it that we'll be making a one-scene demo. It's the same concept as the music - starting out of one leitmotif and then evolving into other forms.

Kwasek: These are not the demotools you are looking for.

i agree with some of the others in that there could have been more. however, i wholeheartedly disagree that it was *lacking* anything.

what was there worked out beautifully. just piling more on top of it certainly wouldn't have improved the demo.

very nice demo is all i can say.

the idea/concept is really cool, but it could have been executed a lot better.
anyways, it gets a thumb. ;-)

the ending is kind of cliche, but the rest is well executed.

It's starting slowly, very relaxing and when you are high and flying arround the damn thing switch to panic mode and blow your mind! Wow!

3D tunnel with light flashes to the beat of the music,
and a long axis rotating, with some geometrical objects on it, emitting light,
greeting words,
suddenly music distorts and the picture turns red,
a futuristic syringe?

You can do way better.

Heh, right up Gargaj's alley, eh? ;)
But ok - I liked the sequencing (no pun), but it's built around the same 3D scene which, to me, becomes tedious almost every time, regardless of the production. I know it's intentional, but it didn't work for me.
no... lack of variation in visuals (though the red noise part rules), a soundtrack that doesn't really convince me.... regardless of design ideas and intentions, this is just not my cup of tea :)

I liked the simplicity and the awesome sync. However, not much happened in the music or the visuals. I would've liked some more scenes and variations on the theme. And the end would probably had made me deaf if I'd been at the release party and listened to it through some big speakers.

extremely well executed. looks nice in high resolution. Empty for my taste but I can see I'm in the minority there.

This is the most gargaj demo ever, perhaps even the most gargaj demo possible? There's certain charm to this careful, meticulous study of abstract pseudo-industrial geometry, movement and synchronization—especially coupled with the slow floating camera—but ultimately it leaves my very lukewarm. I'm mostly left wanting some sort of focus or context to what's happening, because I feel this is intentionally left up to the viewers imagination yet sadly it doesn't stir any kind of emotions in me.

I don't think one can guarantee if a work relates emotionally or not; kinda like how dog movies only work if you like dogs.

I guess both Structure and Sequence are kinda based on the idea of the idea of the abstraction of how organisms and processes work - Structure deals more with elements creating something bigger than themselves, Sequence is more about the pattern of actions an organism can do. I don't think there has to be a context for this, if you focus on the action - I feel that would be too representational, which in turn would require a whole different visual look. Instead it's more of a deconstructive experience where patterns and the actors performing these patterns are more just stripped down portrayals, the idea that there is something doing a repetitive series of actions with the environment changing around it putting the action into a different atmosphere or context.

Sequence probably owes a lot to my fascination with the idea of duty and discipline and doing things you're supposed to do even though it makes no sense for the other person, and doing them even if the circumstances are adverse, about how sometimes you can't really tell where the line is between an automaton's programming and humans following traditions or routines. It's also the slow evolution of things, about how two things to the same things over and over become a third thing when put together - which I think is also something that can feel very human if you project it back to to the human condition.

Or something. At least it's not cubes this time.
