Smooth :))

Quite short of content. And for crying out loud, it's nice to think of the old days, but are crossfade or palette cycling coding tutorials _ANY_ worth nowadays?
added on the 2005-10-31 by elsewhere
nice gfx and music but not so vivid articles. liked it though
added on the 2005-10-31 by rmeht
WHERE IS EMMANUEL POIRIER ARTICLES ;((((
added on the 2005-10-31 by uns3en_
i kinda liked it, but not enough for thumb up.
but i must disagree with preacher on those tutorials since i find it quite relevant for people that only have done gl or d3d before and wanna get started on a limited platform later on, maybe the gba or something, then it's nice to have such tutorials.
added on the 2005-10-31 by bzz
Ok, so I don't usually thumb up HUGI releases, but I really kinda liked this one. So what, here's my thumb.
added on the 2005-10-31 by scamp
Not many articles but not bad.
added on the 2005-10-31 by StingRay
okay-ish, but in a good way :)

thumb for the intropic
added on the 2005-10-31 by violator
Nice issue, the number of articles is very low but they're quite ok. The thumb up is for getting rid of the EP crap :-)
added on the 2005-10-31 by sparcus
at last a nice intro pic, and no more EP crap.
added on the 2005-10-31 by p01
intropic.

Good issue and good interface
added on the 2005-10-31 by Skate
thumb up for the change of attitude and a decent opening picture.

now all you need is more content claus. get more proactive, asking specific people directly to deliver partyreports or specific kind of articles and such stuff. cammon, you can do it! :)
added on the 2005-10-31 by ps
Not bad at all. Smooth interface, good gfx and music and quality writers, even tho the articles might be a little more catchy.
Hundred times better than the previous issue.
added on the 2005-11-01 by dixan
nice title gfx.
Article of 64kintro was good though Article was a little old and the content was thin.
And the report of the party was fresh for the country of me who did not open the
demoparty in off-line.

i am quite impressed. adok, congrats for this issue! instead of relying on speculative articles and dubious ranting, here we have a small but fine selection of well-founded writings. some articles are somehow dry, but this is many times better than some madman ravings. i even could appreciate the literature/misc corner, where diamondie really managed to stun and impress me with her short story and the demoscene nutrition article made me grin. sure, there are VERY few articles, but i know how hard it is to motivate people, and as ps said, the way to go is approaching people directly. the music was okay this time, and the new interface outlook shows some taste at last. needless to say that the startup pic by bridgeclaw is very very nice. oh, and the news were quite interesting and some of those were real news to me. only the blatant ignoring of pain release left a bitter taste.

i'm really glad that finally there is a worthy english-language counterpart again, and i'm looking forward to see hugi moving more and more into the right direction. the diskmag arena needs some healthy competition, not stupid wars, and for my part i'm definetely looking forward to keep up the friendly competition here. adok, i pull my hat! but please keep that course. i think you can already see the visible result here in the comments before and after me, so you see that _proper_ work pays off for sure.

good issue.
added on the 2005-11-01 by bull
Nice issue! Kewl articles, gfx, music! Thanx, Adok! I love Hugi. Wait russian edition ;)
added on the 2005-11-01 by BiTL
serious lack of articles+new content, but thankfully it's not full of incoherent rants from well-known idiots, and some of the articles are actually good.
some of the music was annoying and the presentation (except from the good intro pic) not great, but hey.. this sure is a lot better than previous issues and a huge step in the right direction.
added on the 2005-11-01 by smash
My favourite diskmag.

Nice graphics! (Except for the endpic)
It's a bit short on articles, but that's because everyone's lazy, I guess. :P

Good issue, all around.

Must be lacking EP's articles. :)
added on the 2005-11-01 by kelsey
better than usual, but still ... there was no "wow, why didn't i know this" in it.. but keep em coming ..

may i recommend doing some more demo/intro/wild reviews ...
added on the 2005-11-01 by dwarf
I think that now the effort is worth again the trouble to download and start this diskmag.

I could not take Hugi serious speaking of the past months & years. But Adok, you are definatly going into the right direction and I'm happy about that fact! PAiN badly needs competition and if you continue to go this way, it will soon have it again which is great!!

Hennings' titlepic rules surpreme! I was already thinking about using that one for Jurassic Pack.

A bit thin it is. But I've experienced myself TOO GOOD how hard it is to motivate anybody to write anything for a diskmag. And it's damn boring and emaciating if the mained has to write around 90% of the content himself.
added on the 2005-11-01 by ghandy
It's a big step to better. Cool titlepic, not bad, but for me not that interesting articles. Music made me press esc and put something good from my winamp instead.
added on the 2005-11-01 by teel
quality over quantity. i liked that.
added on the 2005-11-01 by Gargaj

nice one!
added on the 2005-11-01 by skarab
Cracking title picture, which always sets one in a good mood before sitting back and reading the articles.

Article wise, it is rather thin. Although I did enjoy reading it. Personally, I`d rather see issues like this as oppose to previous issues.

All tracks were excellent and well suited to the magazine. Overall, a positive feeling towards this issue. Well done Hugi team!

Dwarf: In my opinion, reviews and/or reports will take the magazine in the wrong direction. (but since when do people think twice about my opinion) :)
added on the 2005-11-01 by darkus
I'm delighted to see most people have liked this issue so far. We brainstormed and worked hard to be able deliver good articles on interesting topics (and quality graphics and tunes, too). I personally asked many people for an article about a particular topic, sadly some of these pieces weren't finished in time.

Hopefully we'll have more articles and tutorials in the next issue, though that's up to you people. Adok said that kilobyte-wise this one isn't that small compared to many other issues, even though the number of articles will appear rather small.

And dipswitch, comments like yours make me motivated to keep writing.

added on the 2005-11-02 by Spewk
After reading the comments I thought there were nearly no articles, but I've seen diskmags with much less content... Solid work! Keep it up.
added on the 2005-11-02 by chock
Change of attitude surprised me, the title of this issue made me smile :)

Definite thumbs up for that!

I've read few articles till now, like ASD's interview or CiH's article about the future (Personally interesting to me. THE FUTURE WAS YESTERDAY!!! I told ya! ;). I think there is more to read for me out there (I wish I had more time for diskmag reading too, coding frenzy now! ;).

And it's great to see Polaris article about starting democoding. Reminds me of the old Denthor's series, that's great for newbies! I am fine with color cycling and stuff, it might not be usefull for newcomers today, but at least they will have an idea of how things worked a long time ago.

Nice change! Keep going..

Everything that PaIN hopes it could be.

Nice gfx, nice muzik and not the one track article content of it's competitor. The favouritism for PaIN really does astound me to this day?

content?
added on the 2005-11-05 by xeNusion
Content a little on the light side but I've always liked the scene/variety mix, like the UK based mags
added on the 2005-11-07 by Knacker
Sorry Adok, but everytime a new Hugi issue has been released I "give it a try" and it is boring and useless.

This one mainly consists out of coding articles that are so 1990...

Maybe a really good idea would be to give the term diskmag a brand new definition instead of spreading stuff that has been outdated for years once again. Like rare scene repositories... For instance security... It could be reports on common coding pitfalls, backdoors, latest exploitations, cracking/coding contests and so on.

You could strive to give all those already exciting yet existing but small information sources a home.

It'll be good to focus on what most "sceners" actually do, instead of handing out wormholes.

Please don't consider this comment offensive.
