its a slideshow at times on my gf6600gt, and its also a bit ugly for most of it. (the planets - it's visually no parsec. although they didnt have any d3dx here.)
however, the 3d at the end is rather impressive, and the whole thing is technically cool.

And yes, this is very nice, with or without that 4k limitation.
rulezadded on the 2005-12-30 20:55:00 by Dbug Dbug
Runs quite slow on gf6800gt (I'm not sure what technique it used, but it looks doable with rendering to cubemaps, which shouldn't be so slow), but it just looks cool. :)
rulezadded on the 2005-12-31 02:29:58 by KK KK
for the first 20 or so seconds i was booing this. man was i wrong.

The change from "bleh" to something so utterly massive is just too cool. Also the soundtrack is probably one of the best dark ambient tracks in a long while.
rulezadded on the 2005-12-31 13:10:29 by uncle-x uncle-x
as i was sitting next to uncle-x i can totally second him. at first i thought "whats this? is it something like bp05winnerripoff or what?" hm... and the planet model looked SO awful. and i thought: "the lighting! hey! planets with highlights?!?!"

and then you really fucked me, everything got a shape and point. wow :)

better than the 4k by frenetic from BP05. best 4k this year, at least for me. :)

rulezadded on the 2006-01-02 10:13:10 by gloom gloom
I think that those who complain about some minor technical issues (slowness for example :) simply don't see the big picture: This is a *REAL* 4k, not some lame "OK, which 3 MB DLL am I going to use today?" intro. This would have been impressive even if it had just been a "Parsec" ripoff. But together with the gears and the excellent lighting, it's simply amazing, to say the very least.
To sum up: WTF?!! Can it get any better now?

Slower than anything on my PC. Good looking otherwise, and the tune was something completely different than the usual 4k beeping.

how about an additional version with lower resolution for screen and cubemaps?
rulezadded on the 2006-01-04 11:49:16 by hfr hfr
Faster version coming soon... Keep your eyes on this spot (or on scene.org, I've uploaded it there and am just waiting for it to show up in the proper location). And thanks for all the feedback (in particular the beer at tUm :-).
And I have the worst slideshow machine: Celeron 1300 with a low-end 9600 - I actually never saw the 4k running properly before it came up on the bigscreen! So the performance was basically some guesswork, trying to extrapolate from my crap stuff to the X800 in the compo machine...

It is technically quite impressive - some kind of reflections, nice tooth wheel object synth with animation, some kind of sound-engine and so on – even some kind of rising complexity “direction” - Thumb Up! … but the overall aesthetics, color scheme, lighting, soundtrack and textures could have been better – especially such terrible things like the 00FF00-green on the planet at the beginning could have been avoided. I also afraid that there is not a single frame that looks really “beautiful” in the sense of things like “parsec”.
