It's OpenGL, not tested on Vista.
Requires no shaders and should run on old hardware.
We will submit a new version soon so don't hesitate to tell me if you encounter any problem with this one.

wheeeee! \o/

another masterpiece of demo art by the king of the playground himself !

the words are not enough to describe how nice is that little cute invitro, the code is great, the 4mat's music is georgous, and the graphics nicely refreshing and well done :)

I can simply sum up by an oldsk00l:

I don't need to download another demo all year now, this is it for me same as SOTA 2004, Same as Kings of the playground..
Just wish you'd release something more often :-P It was worth the wait though.

Blocks shown on the screenshot remain black while falling for me. Fast enough on my not-so-old laptop, but I wouldn't say it's "smooth" - ah well, I'll have to try it on some real hardware... As usual, great design, nice music. Loved the oldskool, ST-like unpacking effect, btw. So 80's. ;)

very pretty! congrats on another high quality prod guys =)) the only down point i think is the 4 windows structure (nasty cracktro feeling). it takes the attention from the effects more or less.. for the rest it's great oldschool flavour =)))

4-mat, hard to believe it. A touch from the legend.
rulezadded on the 2007-03-12 15:51:49 by lancel lancel
And... it crashed. Got an error half way through the loading bar, then when it dropped back to windows, my left-hand monitor stayed black. Very odd too - the cursor appeared fine, but nothing else, and if I dragged a window to that monitor, it turned that black too, and it stayed black even after it was dragged back. Scary spreading blackness! Um.. anyway, probably due to my dual monitor setup or something. Will try it again later, and give a bit more info if it might be a genuine bug.

iks: yep, you deserve an explanation...
- the 4-frames style are just too messy
- those effects are everything but 2007ish
- i've seen that textwriter too many times
- i don't like the colourscheme
- oh well, i don't like this intro at all :)
added on the 2007-03-12 16:21:58 by rmeht rmeht
keops: no opengl apps were running. Just tried again, had the same error, but this time even more weird. If I changed the screen res of the 'black' screen, it would clear the black. But if I changed back to the right res, the black returns. Odd!

Next, I tried with the second screen disabled. Same error. Had to reboot as I couldn't see what I was doing. And to add to the weirdness, the 'loading windows' screen appears on both monitors during boot.. but this time the colours were all wrong on the monitor I ran the demo on. WTF?! This is either the strangest bug since the 'enabling anisotropic filtering causes a motion blur effect on text in normal apps' bug i managed to find ages back, or my video card is about to die!

Will now try after the reboot....

i was tempted to thumb this down, to balance all the thumb ups. it seems like assembling in a rush a bunch of old effects and a far-from-great tune gives instant cdc's and hooras from the pouet crowd.

yeah, what do i know? i'm not oldschool enough, maybe. you would probably get my thumb if you've done this on an atari or c64 (or pokemon mini, for fuck sake) but even then the lack of design - and forgive me this terrible mistake - COMPARED to other stuff you made really disappointed me.

and if i would be a breakpoint organizer i would be a bit ashamed of this being the invitation intro for the greatest party in the world. good thing i'm not a bp orga... oh wait a minute... :)

still, no thumb down because it IS NOT a bad prod, just a disappointing one for me.

but what do i know, i'm a moron, right? please insult me after the beep. thank you.

keops: after reboot, with all apps closed, and single screen... same error. At least since the reboot when it's closed down (I have to kill it from task manager) I get my screen back :) I'll try it on a brand new, top-of-the-range vista laptop that's sat next to me acting as a decoration (yes, the apps it needs to run don't work on vista, and no drivers for XP, thank you HP!) right now.

Bit of info incase you feel like figuring out the problem (probably not worth it if it's only me in the whole world that can't run it):

Pc is dual xeon 3ghz, 2gb ram, quadro fx 1000 video card. XP + latest updates, and most recent (or it was last week) drivers.

There was more debug info, but I didn't manage to save it before getting the screen back on, but this bit was left in the event log:

Faulting application eqx_-_frameskool_-_bp2007_64k_invit.exe, version, faulting module unknown, version, fault address 0x04ff7c55.

Well done guys :) I love it. Well, I know I'll be backward-sounding but the youngest folks here who haven't known the "oldskool scene" namely Amiga/Atari won't probably understand that this kind of stuff was our daily demo dose far from a lot of dark and too much boring/serious nowadays demos.

Maybe this is a sign for 2007 Breakpointers to bring some fun and human feelings in their prod, not just art and 3D performance. FLT made it so brilliant last year :)

Bravo Equinox, ça roulaize :)

I think a bit like jeenio, it seems quite rushed and the flow is too weird and busy, also there are nice effects and some bad ones, the plasma and another one had ugly colours that didn't fit. But there were some other effects, specially the one on the screenshot, topright that turns this comment to a rulez.

Nice prod Keops, I'm sure the final version will fix all these issues.

-A-narchy btw. geez I feel like an amiga scener again. Nice to see old amiga routines and design made on today's hardware. People should put old routines 'in a todays look' more often in demos yeay! :)I would give it a coup de jour but I dont know how :)

I've watched this a couple of times now just to get over the mood of "overly exited" before I comment, but I can hardly help myself. This is just very very good work. A big thanks to Keops and 4-mat(!!!) and Nova for making it happen.

And xeNusion: sometimes you really have to take a step back to take two forward. And I think the demoscene has been there for quite some time now.

I'd run it a lot, fück this is teh c00lz. Tones of lovely details (as usual, maybe even more this time, heh) and what a great choose of colors. The tune, logo, everything are enjoyable, it moves everywhere, those windows are bouncing. I have a dual monitor and had a little speed issue has wroted in the nfo but nothing that killed the demo. From the screeny I see the chocolate blocks on the left/down but it was black on my machine. (but the rotozoomer worked). Also thanks for making lines of codes from scratch with few requirements, sharp and accurate pixels rulez.

Keops must be one of the handful of coders who really do hardcode stuff and it shows. This intro could not have been made with an intro-maker, or if it could it would take so much time. There are some really nice graphics and fine touches of brilliance here and there. Overall a thumb up, ofcourse.

Despite the final result missing a few of the ideas that you had when you've initially come up with this concept, I still must say you're the only one in the whole wide demoscene who knows how to do classic oldschool stuff in 200x.

And the same goes to 4mat, haven't heard a chiptune that good for years now. Congrats!

Despite the final result missing a few of the ideas that you had when you've initially come up with this concept

Kb: Indeed, you're 110% right and you're probably the best person to know about it since you were supposed to be involved in this prod in the first place ;)

We totally ran out of time and this intro is somehow far from what I originally had in mind. The splitscreen concept lost half its interest here since the intros lacks the real stuff I wanted to include. Shit happens as we say :)

I'm glad most people enjoyed it anyway and thank you for the incredibly cool feedback. We will try to include the former ideas we had in mind in some next prod, without the awkward use of splitscreen mode this time ;)

uh? ... ugly :[#####

Thanks for the puking smiley but we already know, we're trying to improve though.

About 4-Mat: Nova and I have been incredibly proud and honored to work with 4-Mat, who was one of our favorite amiga musicians "back in the old days".
Our common work went so well that we are already working on something else together again. Just wait a few months ;)

My opinion how to make this awesome intro even better:

Intro should start with fixed resolution and then goes to overscan(tribute to Atari ST) and then 4in1 screen definetly needs Glenz, Celebradil style(tribute to amiga).

also awesome tune, gaves me the same feeling as the Loonie tune too <3 (failed to found it since years now) Exiting chippies!!
(was talking about the LTP 4 java invit, :p)
Depth: nope, no introtools at all as usual, check the nfo file ;)

Cyberpingui: no problem, we are the ones being late on that one.

StanZ: it could be that we actually never released that Loonie ahx tune from our crappy ltp4 java invit. I will try to find it, it's probably somewhere on my hd.

lol @ Waffle. You're right in that regard.

I have to admit it took me a while to digest the invitation and to give a comment. The expectations were of course insanely high, both due to Keops' involvement but also due to last year's phenomenal invitation.

What I enjoy so much about Keops' direction is that literally every single detail isn't accidental. And it's not about agreeing with everything he says (because I don't), but it's about the fact that his work is simply highly polished. And every demomaker out there knows how much time it takes to get it "just right".

My first impression of the production was "oh my, where do I have to look? There? oh no, bottom left, oh no, top right". My brain spit out an "Out of memory" error. IMO great "replay value". ;-) Brilliant production in every regard (except if you're an oldschool-hater). And hey Mat, I still love the tune. ;-) Great that we've stayed in touch over the years. And welcome back now, officially. ;-)

Radiantx: did you run it while having 20 other applications at the same time? ;)

Radeon cards have always had issues here and there with OpenGL, I will try to see what we can do after BP.

If you had some big 3D app such as XSI running at the same time, especially on dual screen, it might explain it.

Not your best prod as I already told you. Your previous stuff or what you did under orb was much better in my opinion. Piggie.

This is most definately an inspiration for me. The design, the way everything flows and syncs to the music, the transitions... executed to the perfection.

This is sooo cute :D. Shamelessly retro but it's slick and very-well crafted. And the music is top-notch :).

Ah, thanks for the reminder, I have a final version almost finished on my HD since last summer. It fixes a few (non)design things along with a few ATI bugs (the weird bottom left purple frame appearing a few seconds and 2 OpenGL performance issues).

I will try to have a look at it to release it as soon as possible, the timing is quite appropriate ;)

Axel : you were right it seems :D
added on the 2009-02-24 14:43:18 by keops keops
From the screeny I see the chocolate blocks on the left/down but it was black on my machine

Stanz : indeed, thanks. I just noticed that the tiles are now all black as well on my current card - GeForce, not ATI this time ;)
I will fix this bug along with the other issues.
added on the 2009-02-24 15:18:40 by keops keops
I had the black tiles under a GeForce FX 5600. When I got the new gfx card it's one of the first demo I'd run ;) It was perfect on a GeForce 8800 GTS 320. (both system on XP SP2)

sorry to swim against the tide here, but watching this was a really boring experience. literally nothing on the screen interested or excited me. the melody synth got on my nerves after 3 seconds.

only thing i likec was the scene gazette pic, that was nice-ish.
