nice. the only thing i found weird was the good looking water contrasting with the lowpoly icebergs...

Liked the water. The ice not so...

looked very nice. The water almost real but, but there could've been done a lot more instead of just lifting icebergs o_O
Very relaxed urban smooth tune, though \me likes.

VIDEO PLZ
not enough demoeffects by the eyes of a coder. But water is nice and underwater scenes are cool. dull ending
rulezadded on the 2007-07-02 17:37:21 by pohar pohar
Fucking lovely. True, dodge, more could have been done...but sometimes all you really need to do is lift icebergs and relax:) And yeah, a nice Rokysoppy feel on the ears.

water looks nice but whats with the floating teeth? O_o
rulezadded on the 2007-07-02 18:12:52 by psenough psenough
nice visual colouring, mellow theme.. not enough going on though.
Ran unwatchable slow on my PC, but I really liked it on the video. The ice doesn't look right (except when underwater), but the water was good.

Overall, the flow is great, the tune is great, and it works really well.
rulezadded on the 2007-07-02 18:21:36 by psonice psonice
The water looks pretty impressive but that's it. Totally boring demo, soundtrack fits (i.e. it is also boring) and the demo lacks action. Sleeping pill.

For the people that says that it's not interesting coding-wise. I think this demo is the first one to feature Subsurface Scattering realtime (I may be wrong...), not too many people noticed it.

Although I think we failed on getting the best of it in the end.

Not the XPLSV quality I've come to love. It's really not to my taste - over contrasted, slow, boring music.

No thumb down because it's just a matter of taste.

I just don't really like this demo. Water is nice but the icebergs are fugly and overall show is quite boring. The ambience reminds mi of Tokyo.

Refreshing!
++code
+++nice synch
++Loving music
- underwater: more refract plzzzz!!!!
- it's hardly to distingish the refracted threads, and yes, actually, has a perfect synch!

it's a coherent style, that perfectly fits within the Xplsv evolution from Tokyo

I can't really see the hip scattering thingie, but maybe I just don't understand where it should be visible.

The water effect is nice, but not nicer then I have seen in other demo's/examples.

The rest is just boring :(

Pretty water, nice soundtrack compared to the usual idm crap, but the demo simply gets very very boring towards the end.

Hmm .. nice but still ... looks like a tremendous rendiring, in a dull package ...

Nothing really exciting about the icebergs, and the music is just ... hmmm ... reasonesque, and very uninspired for me.

But still, i love XPLSV :)

As previously stated, it's not. Anyway, building your demo on a coder-porn detail that actually needs explaining from your part ought to be a clear sign it's not that much of an improvement over ye olde fakery.

Loved the water effect, then the whole thing just fell into the ocean, demo-wise </ban pun>

yeah, let's visit the dentist :-) well it's kinda nice, but too relaxing and not enough variation.

This water effect is better than most video games, but the demo could have been so much more.

I can't say I'm experienced with real icebergs (not too experienced with the fake ones, either), but surely they don't look like teeth????

Music is a bit dull, aswell....Overall, I think this entry is not fitting for the Intel demo compo at all.
Thanks.

Icebergs <- WTF?! -> Teeth

I hoped that at some point a big monster showed out implanting icebergs in his mouth... It would have kicked ass! :D
added on the 2007-07-03 09:37:35 by soolta soolta
it begins like a fresh wet dream (= youth) and ends like a dentist nightmare (the loss of teeth = ageing then death)...

it's in fact a whole human parable :)

The star in this cast is the musician I think. The rest was just as fun as pulling teeth.

Well, I must admit - quite similar production to Tokyo but I don't like this demo (especially music)... Xplsv can do better stuff.

oh man... sooo tempted of doing a second part of this demo, where you would see the, so called, teeths coming togetther and being inserted in someones mouth.
added on the 2007-07-03 12:07:29 by mrdoob mrdoob
The two things I liked the most in this demo were the water and the music. But I am a bit confused about the music - I admire it a lot, but the rhythm is 100% uptempo version of Thievery Corporation's Prelude. I'm sure that it was a great inspiration to niko ruen, but at first I thought "OMG, they ripped the music!". May be some variations next time? Great track anyway.
added on the 2007-07-03 12:24:53 by galen galen

a really nice and calm show with excellent water simulation. but the competition is a bit too strong, i guess. you could've done a little bit more with those lines. the music is fine anyway.

Very good-looking product. I would like to see a more intensive use of the splines with refraction here and there. Music is also well done and even of my taste! :)

In my opinion you don't need to create something extremely complex to get a nice demo. This one holds a well balanced combination of everything and the result is more than acceptable this time.

Also I want to mention that blackpawn put a *lot* of extra effort in the prod, not only with the effects but with a new version of the demotool, whose results i hope to see in the future. I would like to see a version with the lost scenes also :)

quite a boring product all in all, which, despite a good rendering of water, fails at making its color realistic, and fails at lighting the icebergs correctly.. And the 3d splines growing arround the icebergs are so cliché... Of course, it doesn't deserves a "sucks", but little details, such as the inability at hiding the mouse cursor correctly, makes this production fail at being a good one..

Strange. The underwater scenes are awesome, but somehow the whole impression is ruined by the saturated colors and the teeth-like appearance of the icebergs. I kept waiting for a toothbrush or pepsodent tube to appear :)

Water looks great, and the music is killer. I am not so sure about the subsurface scattering (I honestly can't really see, but it could have to do with the ultra-low res video I saw), but the demo overall is very nice.
What other demos features subsurface scattering? I personally can't recall any.
